  1. I've been looking for a good DVD player that has progressive scan with dvd, cd, mp3, vcd, svcd, cd-r/rw support. The JVC XV-S500BK was pretty much the only one I could find, so I came here and all of the reviews looked very favorable on it. So I decided to run down to Best buy today and pick one up. After hooking up everything I popped in a dvd and it started playing, then i tried an mp3 disk. Again this worked like a charm with long names and all. So I decided to try a vcd I burned to a Memorex cd-rw. I popped the disk in and after a few seconds it says error and spit the disk back out. I also tried buring it to a cd-r disk also with no success. Then I tried these disks in my older Sony DVP-S530D but couldn't get them to play. I'm using a Sony CRX185E1 burner and Fireburner. I have also tried Nero. Is there a problem with this burner or something ? I can't figure out whats wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

  2. The VCD/SVCD files you are trying to play back might not be standard compliant. Make sure the settings used on the VCD/SVCD comply with standard specs. If your player is supposed to play XVCD/XSVCD, then there may be a problem elsewhere.

  3. i use vcdeasy to make sure the .mpg file i'm burning is compliant for either VCD or SVCD. nero will complain as well when using the nero VCD or SVCD templates, but vcdeasy is a lot more strict and creates better complaint cds that will play on most dvd players than nero.
