  1. Hello all, i am a newbie to this all, and of course i have a couple of questions. I was told that i can compress my VCD files to DivX files using the DivX 5.02 codec and Virtual Dub 1.4.10. The guy that told me about this said i should use use 500 k a second when i encode, and use full processing on audio and that would make a 450mb file into a 170-180mb file, with very little loss in quality. So i loaded the file i wanted to compress put it to full processing on audio and under video->compression changed the codec to DivX 5.02 and in the DivX configure meun changed the kbps to 500. Thinking i had done everything right i saved the .avi file, but insteed of compressing it, it jumped to 650mb. My question is, what am i going wrong? Should the video be in Full Proessing mode or one of the other, and did i change the settings in the codec right?

I hope you know what i am talking about and i hope someone can help.
    Thx

  2. After selecting full processing mode in the audio tab you must then select compresion, then MP3 and finally the quality you want (128kps 160 kps etc)

  4. You already have the video compresion set to Divx5 500kbps, The 650mb file you are getting is almost just uncompressed audio because you did not select audio compresion after full processing mode, once you compress the audio using the MP3 codec you should have a much smaler file. I recomend you check the conversion guides to the left, there is a guide that explains in more detail the conversion you are trying to make.

P.S. If you dont have installed the MP3 codecs in virtualdub I think you could get them if you install the Divx3 codec first (even if you are using Divx5 for your compression)
