  1. Yesterday I installed DVD-Dup, and it worked great. The problem is I have a widescreen TV, and DVD-Dup records the video in non-anamorphic widescreen. Do you know of any way to record the video anamorphically? I don't believe there's a way with DVD-Dup, but can anyone suggest another program that will do it? Thanks.

  2. Not 100% sure about this, so someone may need to correct me.

I'm in the same situation you are, I've got a widescreen TV and would like to rip a few of my DVDs and keep the 16:9 aspect.

You *may* be able to do this within Tmpgenc. I know that by default if you encode a 16:9 movie without specifying the "keep aspect ratio" option it will not add the black bars, so your movie output is squished. Thus, if you then took this 16:9 video that was "squished" into 4:3 aspect then it should be displayed properly when played on a 16:9 TV, just as when you copy a 16:9 movie to VHS.

I've been meaning to test this out, but have been just too lazy to do it. Probably will try this tonight and let you know the results.

  3. With TMPGEnc - just tell it the source is 16:9 and that the desired output is also 16:9 - then author it with a DVD program that can handle 16:9 - DVD Maestro works great.

  4. Thanks for the replies. I switched to using DVD2SVCD, and TMPGEnc. DVD2SVCD does have the ability to record in 16x9. I'm experimenting with a feature that is supposed to "flag" the disc as a 16x9, so a dvd player set for 16x9 will display the full picture, while a dvd set for 4x3 monitor will play normally on a regular tv. Apparently many players don't recognize this "flag"- I'm using an Apex AD-1200. I'll let you know if it works.
