Hi,
I converted a Divx movie (23.9 fps) to mpeg2 with tmpgenc, but had to convert it
to PAL since my tv/player gave black/white when I kept it in NTSC.
The conversion shows some very short 'shocks' when i play it.
Audio and video are well synchronized, quality is ok but these hickups
are a little bit annoying. When i use an mpeg 2 software player i see
the same effect. The original divx does not have it.
Movies which were originally in pal are fine.
Anybody suggestions? Is this due to the framerate conversion?

Hi wouter,
thats right , its due to the 23->30 fps conversion.
There is no easy way to get rid of the shoks in the movie.
The easiest way is NOT to convert 30 ( leave it in NTSC format)
In stead of buying a new television , you can check your dvd player.
Your player can do the NTSC-> PAL conversion for you. Read your dvd player manual .
Most DVD players are able to do that.
Sorry for my poor english.

Wouter99,
Your DVD should be able to handle the NTSC to PAL conversion. It sounds to me that when you put the NTSC disc in the DVD it started outputting an NTSC signal (which is incompatible with your TV). Check out the DVD players setup menus. See if you can set the output signal to PAL instead of AUTO, this should stop it from kicking into NTSC mode and you can convert without a framerate change. -
Hi pet_head & TomSem,
By the way I did a 23-> 25 fps conversion but that's probably the same issue.
I'll check out the dvd player settings tonight (a grundig 5100), but I thought i
did select PAL somewhere in a menu. I'll let you know,
Thanks,

Thanx,
I tried your advice, set PAL in the player (was AUTO),
and it worked fine.
