I am a newbie, so please feel free to take what I have to say with a grain of salt. I would make a note of where the credits begin where you want sound removed.

Demux the sound file using TMPGenc -- File-->MPeg Tools...-->Simple De-multiplex tab. Load your video file. Select "Run". Two files will be created. an .m1v file and an .mp2 file.

Load the mp2 sound file into Gold Wave. Select Edit-->Marker-->Set.

In the "Start Marker" box enter the time where your credits begin.

Check and make sure the "Finish Marker" box has the end of your file time loaded. If not, enter it there. This highlights the portion you are interested in affecting.

Select Effects-->Volume-->Change.... This brings up a slider. move it all the way to zero. Select "Okay" You have just decreased the volume at the end of your file to silence.

Save the file. This new file is saved as a .wav file.

Return to TMPGEnc. Load this .wav file in the "Audio Input" portion of the main program. Select start. Make a note of the Output file name. It should be a .mpg file.

Now Select File-->MPeg Tools.... -->Multiplex tab. Load the .m1v file as the "Video Input", and the .mpg file from the last step as the "Audio Input". Select "Run".

Your new "Output File" is your old video file with silence at the credits where there used to be talking. Hey Gurus, what do you think?

  3. Tommy's method should work great.

Also you can use a mpeg capabile video editor, examples are Ulead Videostudio 6 & MediaStudio Pro 6.5 (trials available at www.ulead.com if you want to try them). There are other MPEG editors that might work also. If you have TV source the editors will allow you to cut out commercials & save disk space on the final VCD/SVCD/DVD.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
