  1. Hello - I recently installed a new AthlonXP CPU 1800+ and the new version of TEMPGEnc2.54. I started encoding an AVI to XVCD format and all goes well until it freezes ~8000 to 15000 frames into a 143,000 frame movie. I have tried adjusting settings, splitting the movie in half to make it smaller and it keeps freezing up on me. Is this a glitchy version of TEMPGEnc or am I the problem. If I am what things can make an encoding session or my PC less prone to Freezing. I did not have a problem with my old 1.0 GHz Athlon processor and I think I actually had this same version of TEMPGEnc. Help

    Thanks

  2. Whne Tmpgenc is running, it uses the CPU 100%, so there is a chance your CPU is overheating. Try running some other CPU intensive app for several hours and see if that crashes. You could try the SETI or UD screensavers, they will use 100% cpu for as long as you let them, or search the net for a Burn test program

Is the AVI junk free, have you tested it for bad frames ?

  4. Thanks for the tips. I checked the video for bad frames and it is fine. I have the same problem with any video. I actually ran a SiSoft Sandra 2002 burn in for 10 reps and didnt have a problem but it only took like 5 - 10 minutes. I have an XP 1800+ with a Thermaltake Volcano 6CU+ fan. My idle temps run 40C which I think is hot. I thought this fan was a monster - it doesnt seem to be cutting it.

I will try to encode with my box open and a big fan blowing on the inside of my case to see if that helps. If so I will re-install the fan with more or a better application of thermal compound.

Ah, well I have an Intel board, it has a great program for monitoring CPU fan, and the 2 case fan's. I found a great site which had some great cooling and sound proofing gadgets, cant find the link now, its in one of my posts...
