  1. How do the DVD we buy hold so much info on one side and we can't fit merely half of the on a DVD-R. Whats the diffrence. I rip DVD rentals and I try saving them on my computer but I'm running out of space. Is there any way I can save the movie files on a DVD-R

  2. Pressed DVD's are dual layer(9.4GB) and blank DVD-R/+R are single(4.7GB).

  3. No not the double sided discs. I mean the DVD movies we buy from stores. For example "the fast and the furious" is 147 min on DVD. If I rip that and try to put it on DVD-R with the same quality it will go way over 4.7 GB

  4. Commercially pressed discs can be dual-layer as well as double-sided.

Single layer, single side: 4.7 GB
Dual layer, single side: 9 GB
Single layer, double side: 9 GB
Dual layer, double side: 18 GB

DVD-Rs are only single layer, single or double sided.

  5. Are dual later, single sided DVDs available? When do you think they will released to the public?

  6. Dual-layer DVD-Rs are not available, and I've read that for various technical reasons they will not be feasible and thus will never be available.
