  1. I am ripping From Hell and I used smartripper to get the vobs onto the computer. That worked fine and now i am trying to use dvd2avi to get the .d2v and the .wav files. It does the .d2v but no .wav. I tried freeing up some more room, but 2 gigs has always been more than enough. It has worked for me many times before and I am frustrated that it won't work now. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

You need to realize that there are several audio tracks in a vob file and that they are not always stored in the same order. If dvd2avi has worked in the past for you and not now my guess is that you have it set to decode track 1, which is the dolby digital track on most dvds. However, on some dvds the DTS track is stored as track 1 and dvd2avi cannot decode DTS tracks. You need to set dvd2avi to decode the proper track in the audio tab. You can use something like flask or graphedit to see what each audio track is. My advice is that if you are making a vcd or svcd than you should always select the dolby 2.0 track, not the dolby digital track. As good as freeware downmixing software is I doubt it can be as good as what the studios use, and besides theres no point doing the downmix when its already been done for you.

  3. Thanks, I knew that more than one sound file was stored on the vobs, and i knew track one was dts, but i did not know that it could not use dts. Thanks for the info, it will be good to know in the future.
