  1. I'm totally new to this, so any suggestions would be great.

Followed this guide step by step (with the DVDx 1.8a and the newest TMPG): http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdbackup.htm

Took about 2 hrs and I got a big MPG file, which is easy playable..

the problem is, there are occasional blocky pixels and sometimes distortion in loud sounds/speech.

So the question is: Does DVDx simply do average quality and I should use something else? Or are there some options I can use to improve the quality ?

  2. Hello,
I use DVDx to encode my dvd to divx mostly, but I have never had a problem using it. I tell dvdx to use the Lame codec for audio and Divx 5.02 for the video. Works very well for me.
What are you doing, divx, vcd, scd?
send me an e-mail or something and I will try to help you out the best I can.

  5. thanks for the help , I've been starting to use DVD2SVCD/ TMPEG and the quality is flawless so far. takes many many hours, but I can just do it at night or build a 2nd computer for this purpose.

so.. I'll just presume it's a lack of quality with DVDx

  6. Hey prox,
Are you able to make VCDs using DVD2SVCD and TMPGEnc?
    Can you add subtitles?

    Thanks.
