In 98, you can restore your regestry from a cab.
This will revert your computer back to a state when the cab was created
Is this possible in XP, without having system restore active

something similar to that in windows xp and windows me, system restore. You can create restor points, and your system does them automatically as well. If you have installed a program, it causes some problems, you can run your system restore, and your computer will be restored back to june x,2002.

This won't work in WinXP. The scanregw.exe would only work in Win98 and WinME. The scanreg was very useful for me restoring registry files. Scanreg cleaned and restored the registry in minutes after finding the registry corrupted.Originally Posted by Greg12
I just tried this in my WinXP computer and nothing happened as the computer couldn't find it. I suggest you find out from Microsoft's "Knowledge Base" search for scanreg.
