  1. Hi,
I have some movies as .dat files.
I have windows 2000 and media player 7 installed.

I am not able to play the movies. What is the software needed to run these movies.

Also what is the software needed to convert into normal files using which i can view the movies in all players.

I will be thankful if i can get the software names and the exact links.

  2. You can convert .DAT files to mpeg files using VCDGear (www.vcdgear.com). You can directly play the .dat files using windows media player, just associate .DAT extension with it. This applies for both VCD and SVCD. BUT you need the MPeg2 codecs installed for SVCD. They are available from a variety of places (this site for one)

  3. Hi,

how to attach the .dat extension to my media player.
In the file formats,i do not see the .dat extension to attach.
one of my friends were telling me to install a codec driver for .dat file support..but from where i will get that.

Is there any solution to play this..or any other devices which support playing .dat files directly..

  6. To attach .DAT just double click on the file, Windows will pop open a window asking something like what application do you wish to play this with. Choose Windows Media Player (mplayer2.exe).

Yopu can also use Windows Explorer, Tools Menu, Folder options, File Types to do the same.

  8. Most likely they are SVCD type files (MPEG2). Have you installed the MPEG2 codec elsewhere on this site. Otherise try using VCDGear (www.vcdgear.com) to convert tham to .mpg format.
