  1. i need an m2v file to import into spruce up so i can use ac3 sound...but when i use tmpgenc to change the bitrate of the VOB files, it leaves me with a .mpg file. how can i get a m2v file instead?

I'm also curious about this. I can't see any reference to .mpg output as opposed to .m2v. I'm encoding some video from archive.com (silent footage) from their mpeg 2 format to dvd friendly mpeg 2, and the DVD2AVI/TMPGEnc route is producing .mpg files. Will I just need to rename them to .m2v files?

A .M2V file is an elementry video stream. If you have a .MPG file, it probably has a multiplexed audio stream in it along with the video. If you need to have a true elementry stream (Spruceup is VERY picky about this), then use TMPG > FILES > MPEG TOOLS > DEMULTIPLEX and double click on the video file stream, and save it as a .M2V file (NOTE: this is not the SIMPLE DEMULTIPLEX selection). I've had Spruceup try to read in a 4.3GB file and take the 15 minutes to examine it, only to NOT import it in the end. I checked the offending file, only to find that it contained a PADDING STREAM (which Spruce CANNOT HANDLE!). But, after stripping out my desired elementry video stream ( and adding the required .M2V extention) Spruce had no problems.

Thanks for that. I'm actually taking the .m2v files over to the mac to author with dvd studio pro, but the requirements and process is the same.

    cheers.

  7. you actually beat me to it...after reading the spruce manual like ten times i finally figured out the whole mpg vs m2v thing. i think im gonna try writing a guide now since i couldnt find any myself. getting an m2v file is crucial to using ac3 audio in spruce. thanks guys.
