  1. Hi All
I have been using dvd ripper to rip dvds and burn them onto dvd-r's. They work flawlessly on my computer using Powerdvd or other players but when I put them on my stanalone players they seem to get hung up on the menus. Like for example the Columbia/Tristar logo and animation will appear and look and sound great then either it will hang up after that or go the the menu but I am unable to get past that. Any ideas??
    Thanks

  2. I don't have experience with DVD Ripper, but in SmartRipper you have the option to either rip the movie alone or copy a DVD in its entirety. If you can play the DVD-Rs you burn on your PC, but not on a standalone, it could be that you only copied the movie itself. Of course, you mentioned you could at least get to the menu screen of some DVD-Rs on the standalone, though you cannot access scenes and whatnot. My guess is that there is something wrong with the directory structure of the DVD-Rs you are burning. Make sure that all the VOB files are in the proper directory on the DVD-R, as compared to the original DVD.

  4. if you are ripping single layer dvds ( dvd-5s ) then you should rip everything on the dvd to the hardrive, when you burn it back it should play back with 100% functionality ( FBI warning and all ) in a dvd home unit as mine do, it's when you rip a dual layer dvd ( dvd-9 ) and run thru ifo edit to strip excess audio tracks subtitles ect..that you might want to burn to dvd-rw to check to make sure menus ect work properly.

  5. If it plays fine on your computer but not on your set top player, my guess would be media incompatibilites. Try a different brand or higher grade DVD-R.

  6. I have backed up my movies in different ways. I finally found the one that provides me with the most compatibility. This method plays on my pc, standalone settop player and car dvd player.

    1. First make sure that the DVD is not multiangle, if it is, using DVDDecrypter go to settings and check MULTIANGLE PPOCESSING and selct angle 1, rip the entire contents. If it is not multiangle, rip the entire contents.

    2. USE Sperrows IFOEDIT guide for either doing a 1 to 1 copy or splitting to 2 DVD-Rs.

    3. Once all the steps in Sperrows guide are complete, use IFOEDIT to create the disc image.

    4. Once the disc image is created, burn the image using GEAR PRO DVD. For GEAR PRO, don't change any setttings, just started up, select OPEN IMAGE, select your image and burn.

Took me a while to find a method that would work in my different setups and this was it, regardless of DVD-R media used.
