This seems to be a common problem with VirtualDub, when capturing no sound is captured. I read several things to try out like cheking if line-in is active, enter capture mode several times and just opening video -> source, but nothing helped.
Any ideas what else I could try to get it to work?

What capture card are you using? what driver?
Do other apps capture with sound? -
Having similar problems, can somebody explain "capture card & apps that capture with sound". As you can see I'm new to this so be gentle with me.

Lusid,
I'm using the TerraTValue from Terratec and downloaded the newest driver version from their homepage.
The card comes with a capture application and it does capture with sound, but I'd rather like to use VirtualDub than the Terratec capturing soft. -
Is it a WDM driver?
Are you capturing from the card's tuner? or from a A/V input source?
If possible, try capturing from an A/V source, and wire the audio directly from that source to your soundcard. If you still don't get audio, then it's something in the windows mixer.
If you do get audio, then your video card driver is probably not enabling the audio out when it gets the capture request from virtualdub. In which case it's most likely a driver issue. -
It's a WDM driver, I'm trying to capture from the card's tuner through the line-in of the sound-card. Anyway, I think it's a problem with the driver as I tested it with an older driver version and the sound worked well.

Then thats whats happening.
The driver, for whatever reason, doesn't enable the audio when a capture gets started. The vendor's software has an internal workaround which VirtualDub cannot take advantage of, even if it wanted to, since it goes through the VFWWDM wrapper.
If an older driver revisions works, stick with it and nag the vendor to fix it in their next release. -
I'm having the same problem. I'm using an ATI AIW 7500. The drivers that came with the card (MMC 7.5) would not work with VDub initially. Then I upgraded to the most recent VDub and it suddently worked (which was great, since VDub is by far the best capture software I've found). I upgraded to MMC 7.6 and suddenly I can't capture audio with VDub. I'm not sure if I upgraded to 7.6 before or after the sound stopped working, but I will reinstall the old drivers and see what happens.
Anyone else having problems with the All-In-Wonder 7500 (Win2K capture driver 6.13.10.5118) and VDub?

PS
When I get my system working the way I want it, I'm going to ghost it so that when this crap happens I can just rebuild and start over! -
I finally got it to work, I downloaded this driver: http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/Files/btwdmdrvinstaller5.3.0.zip

yes its very annoying, same problem with me i have an AIW Radeon, just updated to the latest drivers for my capture/video card, and its no sound for virtual dub
