  1. I'm finally moving up from TV speakers to a new surround-sound home theater system on Fathers Day (honey, I love you!). This will all be new to me. I was wondering if there's some kind of 'test' DVD available, for testing and/or 'showing off' the surround-sound Dolby features. One that checks all channels, and has cool sound effects like maybe planes/spaceships flying overhead from side to side, or monsters coming up from behind, etc. I looked at BestBuy and saw nothing. I know there are good movies (Matrix, etc) but I was looking for something that is 100% 'ear candy'. Even an audio CD would do, if the offer surround-sound.

This is proboly a ice cream induced thought so i can not take no control for the above statment. :P

well if you had a dvd burner (or maybe someone who does), these are some good ear candy.

  6. Cool! Now let me ask a dumb question... Are (some) music CD's in surround sound? Maybe I can find an audio cd that 'shows off' the dolby.

That website looks interesting. I don't have a DVD burner, but a friend does. After downloading several clips, any special way he should burn these for me to play on my DVD player? I mean I don't know how his dvd-burning compares to my VCD burning.

well the best an audio cd could do is dolby pro-logic. sorry i can't think of any right now. those vob's are dolby digital, which are 5.1, meaning there are 5 separate channels being played. pro-logic is just two channels widened out to make it feel like its surround. Maybe the more experienced dvd-r people would be able to tell you the proper way of getting those vob's onto a dvd. (it bay just be a simple matter of getting something like ulead's movie maker and dropping them in.

  8. The Chemical brothers (music group) have this song called "Bass Test." Download it with Kazaa, convert to WAV, burn it to a cd-r and try it out. If you like it I'd buy their CD so that you have WAV quality instead of MP3.

  9. The intro sequence of toy story 2 is really good for showing of your 5.1 system, good seperation of channels and tons of bass. If I turn up the wick on my 110w per channel 5.1 sony amp, with mourdaunt short speakers and paradigm bass box, I can feel the sofa vibrating
