Everyonce in a while when I rip a dvd I get errors on my harddrive. Has anyone else ever occured this problem? I've had to format my C: drive 3 times just to correct the problem right. When I run scan disk to find the errors, it tels me that it found bad clusters ( I can't remember specific places ). I just wanna know if anyone else has encountered this problem.

If you're using Win95, 98 or ME you may run in to "lost clusters", but if Scandisk is reporting "bad sectors" it's time for a new hard drive - NOW.
Just a suggestion - you might want to upgrade to Win 2000. Very stable and your machine will operate faster, with better memory management and multitasking.
WinXP is based on 2000, with more bells and whistles...and more bugs. -
Hi Martok. Here is some more info for ya. I used to run XP professional. When I would start up scan disk would run and then let me know of the errors ( bad clusters ). After scandisk ran it would tell me it replaced bad clusters in sectors which I can not remember the numbers. I have a new hard drive Maxtor 40 GB 5600. I just got it 3 months ago. I am now running Win 98 with 382 MB RAM. I'll do a few more and see what happens I jst installed 256 RAM into my system so maybe that will help.

joshtheninja,
Go to www.maxtor.com and download POWERMAX, Maxtor's hard drive diagnostic program. Make sure the drive's ok 1st.
Even new drives fail, I had a Seagate go belly up in 2 weeks.
