when i convert a video avi file to mpeg format using tmpgenc there is a noticible loss of quality in both clarity and brightness. What am I doing wrong?

I was having problems until I got the `smr patch.' That's helped with smr movies, anyway.

It depends on the quality of what your encoding, as well as what you are making..VCD,SVCD,XVCD??

I'm downloading a video file from my digital8 camcorder to the computer with an ieee 1394 card using moviexone as a capture program. The resulting avi file is decent quality but when i convert it to an mpeg file, using the tmpgenc program, it loses quality even at the high quality setting.
