Price range ~100 to 200. The Pioneer DVD 555 is ~500, so if there is something that will do all DVD, CDR, CDRW, CDG, VCD, SVCD, & MP3, etc... I'm willing to step up, know what I mean...

    Thx

I like that player. My friend has it. Pretty good stuff...

  6. Is the RCA hackable? I'm also looking for a new player, something easy to make region and macro free.

Why waste the money? The Apex 1500 will serve you well, for the low price of $50-70. Hackable to the hilt.

  8. I was looking at the apex 1500 from amazon, but wasn't sure what the odds of getting one with a,b,c or d in its serial was worth it.

Also, does the quality of the apex players look as good as other more "well made" players? I know when I played an svcd on the apex it didn't look as good as I thought it did when I downloaded it. Of course it could be the svcd quality that made it look poor, but I was just curious if the player had any impact.
    Thanks

  9. Regarding my previous post, is there any place to get a pioneer 343 or something similar for under 100?
    Thanks

  10. Get a Pioneer. End of story.

There are a couple brands that will play "anything", like the Apex and such, but only one brand looks good while doing it. Get a Pioneer.

  12. The Apex 1500 is available for $65 at Circuit City. I have installed the Macrovision-free, Region-free firmware. I bought mine from CC and the serial number allows the hack.

However I am looking for something with better playback quality and preferrably progressive scan.

Which is a good Pioneer that does progessive scan?
