  1. Hi:

I am trying to convert an .avi to a vcd for the first time using Nero. It has been running for 23 minutes and has been encoding avi files to MPEG. After 23 minutes it is still at 0%. What on earth should I do? Thanks you.

  2. You should use tmpgenc or some other program to encode avi to vcd instead of Nero. Nero is awesome for burning vcds, but it really doesn't do such a great job of encoding. Also depending on your processor speed, encoding vcds could take hours or even over night no matter what program you use.

  3. I have had no trouble using nero for avi to vcd (and svcd). I have 1.8 GHz P4 and 512 RAM. That probably helps. The image quality might be better using TMPGenc but, on my 31" TV, nero looks pretty damn good.

  4. Is the TMPGENC the $179 one...a little out of my reach

  5. Nope. Tmpgenc is FREE! Mpeg-2 encoding expires after 30 days though. But if you're making mpeg-1 vcds, thats not an issue.
