  1. Hi,
*sigh* I have Nero installed on my computer. I have successfully been able to burn off music cds. My question is this: what steps need to be taken to burn off an .avi file? I've noticed that the majority of video files are.avi. As a newbie I thought burning a video was as simple as burning off mp3s. I'm using Kazaa by the way, and cannot view the .avi file when it's downloading? Why is that? Or do I just need to wait till it's finished and view it in Windows Media Player? I'm confused by all the divd, divx, dvd etc terms lol Any help explaining how I can burn off an .avi file would be greatly appreciated...thanx! Sorry for the dumbness lol

    What !?

The *.avi file you have downloaded is most likely a mpeg4 (divx) video

In order to view on a television you must either have a video card with TV out and run the file from the computer OR re encode into a format that standalone DVD's will recoginize.
Most standalone will play the VCD standard

Ahh but but how do i do that

  3. Don't worry, you can simply burn your avis as regular files, just like mp3s or others.

Things are different if you want to burn a VCD (Video CD) or SVCD (Super Video CD) that you can play back on a standalone DVD-Player: These have to be written in a special format, and since VCD and SVCD are based on mpeg 1 and 2 respectively, you'd have to convert your avi into one of these video-formats before you can use it for a (S)VCD.
