  2. Explaining all you need to know would be too long of a post. But I can point you in a few directions for you to look into further.

First, you will need to physically connect vcr to computer. For this you need a video capture card. You can get a good one for as little as $50.

Second, throw away the capture software that came with it and instead use Virtual Dub or iuVCR or any of the many other fine free programs available here and elsewhere on the web.

Thirdly, get a good codec so you don't consume your whole harddrive with uncompressed avi files. I recommend huffy and picvideo.

Fourth, learn as much as you can about interlacing, 3:2 pulldown, and inverse telecining. But for SVCD you don't have to de-interlace it. IT may just be fine left alone.

Fifth, get all the filters you can for Virtual Dub and leanr how to use them. Pay close attention to the temporal cleaners. They can sometimes work miracles with VHS video.

Sixth, get TMPGenc for encoding (free), and VCD Easy for burning.

  3. Here's a real simple way as well...

    1) Purchase Movie Star Video capture/digitizer made by Dazzle. You can buy it at Office Depot. (You can purchase any digitizer by Dazzle, Movie Star is the one I use)

    2) Purchase Nero Burning Rom and it's SVCD plug in.

    3) Capture your movie, burn it to svcd with nero

    4) Enjoy!
