While using preview before I start any conversion, I am noticing the picture is all scrambled. I know the file is not corrupt b/c it plays on both real player and WMP. Only when I preview it in TMPGEnc does it get screwed up. I tried the same method with the first part of the movie and everything was allright. Any ideas for the scrambled pic.

You need to define 'screwed up'.
Does the image become blocky around text, faces, backgrounds? Do lines appear when displaying motion? Does the entire screen or a section of the screen turn green? What is the source. MPEG, DVD, AVI, DIVX, MOX, OTHER...? What are your settings? Are you using a template?
Without specifics we can only quess at the cause.

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific. The whole entire movie is blocky and is all sorts of colors. The source is an .avi, and I am converting it to mpg. I am using the instructions given on this website for the conversion.
I might add that I have done this successfully a few times, and now all of a sudden I am getting these results. Like I stated before, the movie plays great on WMP and real playa.
Any input is greatly appreciated -
Sorry for the post
. I should have looked at the latest site news for more information about TMPGEnc, and some of the more common errors. What I had to do was go into Options/Environmental settings/VFAPI Plug in and increase the Direct show multimedia file reader to 1 or 2. Presto! it worked!!
I just hope the original values when it comes time to change them back
