I have run into a small problem. I finally got the uncompressed avi from
the asf. However, when I went to compress it with Divx5 it crapped out
about 3/4 of the way through the movie.
(Funny thing about this - I did it right before I went to bed and in the
morning my daughter had wanted to play a game on the PC. She saw
the error message and wrote down EVERYTHING for me, complete with
the whole box and X's and OK buttons - Cute).

Anyway, I split it in 2 and did a SAVE AVI on both parts. The first one
completed normally but the second one crapped out at the same point
that it did on the first run.
Just screwing around I tried the "Direct Stream" save and IT WORKED!
It ran in about 10 minutes and the file was converted. Now all I have to
do it make sure both parts match where I split them (I posted a msg
on this in the Editing-Cutting-Joining section).
Hopefully I will be able to finalize this whole mess so that I can figure
out exactly what I did so I may help others with ASF problems.

  3. hi,

why not just use EO video. it allows you to bring in your asf file and exports it as a VCD compliant MPEG-1 clip. works everytime.

Wellllll. I have yet another glitch. I have the following so far:

    AVI in Divx5 format w/audio.

My problem is this: I ripped the audio out of the avi due to a sync problem
with the video/audio in the avi.
I then started the conversion with TMPGEnc using the avi for the video
and the wav for the audio.
I converted about 1 minute and then stopped it to check the quality.
I could not believe it: The sync problem was still there. I have never
had this problem with a conversion to mpeg. I have had "out of sync"
avi's before and have done this method with success. Now it will not
    get back in sync.

I am currently looking up info. on this here. If you have any ideas on how
to correct this please post as I will be checking back very often when
I have to stop looking for a while.

    Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for a little while and found this idea but I need
    someone to clarify it:
Using Virtual Dub 1.3 how would I save the audio as an Uncompressed wav?

  5. I tried Vdub 1.3 and TPMGE 12a and still no luck, best solution I ran the ASF out of my computer using my Utobia MPEG2 decoder card with HHplus AVI decoder patch to play ASF's through my MPEG2 decoder card over to my Panasonic DVD Home Recorder and put on a DVD-Ram discs at the no quality loss 1 hr. 9000 bitrate, played from recorder back through my happauage WINPVR card captured at 480x480 SVCD resolution at 3000 bitrate, darned if the final project lost very very little from the original ASF. plus it was now ready to be burn on a CD-R for SVCD. After this though, never again will I download ASF's.

I may have to clear something up here. I did have an asf but
I FINALLY (Whew ) got it to avi format.
I did edit out some bad frames and then converted it to Divx5.
After this I ripped the wav (not sure if it was compressed/uncompressed) and
tried to merge the two together in TMPGEnc as a mpeg.
It is at this point that I stopped the conversion process to check the
quality and found out that the audio/video sync was out.
I converted for about one minute before I stopped it. As I started to
watch the clip the audio WAS in sync right at the beginning but about 10
to 15 seconds later it was out. In the avi it is the same way, except
since I have the whole movie I am able to report that the audio/video
sync gets progressively worse. At the end of the movie the credits are
rolling but the audio still has about 2-5 minutes left, then the end of the
video comes up and it stops playing.

I believe my audio problem may be a "Stretched" audio problem.
    I took a look here: http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/audio-synch.htm
and came to that conclusion. Is there a sort of easier way to fix stretched
    audio sync problems?

    Thanks.

Ooppss - Just found it here: http://www.azstarnet.com/~jeffryj/avifix.html

Well, I found it but it did not work. I think I will try:
    http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/audio-synch.htm

At first this guide seemed a bit over my head but I figured if I could
handle GraphEdit then this should not be a problem.
No time this weekend till Sunday late night so I hope to have some
sort of update to post. When will it ever end (NEVER )

P.S. Does anyone know if Cool Edit 2000 is free? I went to the web
site and clicked on it and it started to download. I just want to be able
to use it for this file but I am afraid that if it is "Shareware" I will not
be able to utilize it to the fullest.
    Thanks.
