  1. Hello all,

Can you just burn a plain vcd, no chapters, or menus and traverse through it? I mean jump to a particular place in the movie, like 35:00. My dvd player supports a standalone mpeg file on a cd, encoded with TmpgEnc, but I cant move through it... If I burn it as a true vcd, can I do what I wan't ?

    Thanx,

Just cut your clip up into individual chapters, then in your layout, link them all together for continuous play, to get to the next "chapter" you just just hit >>| forward the track

  3. I Cant do chapters. I tried burning with vcdeasy and it wont recognize my burner anyway I try it. I tried burning the bin through nero and it didn't work either...

  4. Older versions of Nero do not burn bin-files correctly, so that might explain your problem. I hear the most recent version of Nero has corrected this problem, but you'll have to try out for yourself. Alternatively, CDRWin is usually considered very good for burning cue/bin images.

What doesn't work about VCDEasy's burner support anyway? It could be that you don't have an Aspi-layer installed. If that's the case, look for a program called "ForceASPI" and use it to install an Aspi-Layer on your PC, then try the generic-mmc driver.

Oh, and in case you *really* don't get chapters to work, the remote control of my DVD-Player has a "Goto" button, which I can use to enter any time I like and have the player jump to that position on the disc, so perhaps your player has something similar as well.

    Good luck,

  5. I have one of the newer version of nero... 5.5

Could it be the block size I used? I was using the larger block size... It burned with no errors, but When I tried to view it on my pc it said "invalid Function". (Windows Error). The VCDPlayer said "Bad File Number".

  6. I don't think it's the blocksize, as Nero ought to use whatever blocksize is specified in the cue-file. "One of the newer" versions of Nero might not be good enough, though, as I seem to remember that this problem wasn't fixed until the most recent update (currently 5.5.8.2 according to the Ahead web page.)

I don't consider this chapters...but I just cut movie into say 10 parts...then use vcd option in Nero to burn, draging all the parts over just like they are different movies all on one VCD...but then right click on each file and make sure the delay or pause between the clips is set to zero...so it goes right into next clip without a pause....
That way you can choose a specific part from the menu or play whole thing.

  8. On my DVD player I have a button called "Goto". I can then punch in any time I want to go to, and hit enter. The player will then jump to this time point without any special markers on the VCD, it simply uses the time line of the VCD file.

  9. 1. Cutting up an MPEG into several bits and putting them on separate tracks is not creating "chapters". Even if you set the pause time to zero there will still be a pause. The length of the pause will depend on your authoring method and your player.
    2. VCDEasy can create "real" chapter -- in so much using entrypoints: http://www.vcdimager.org/guides/chapters.html
    3. If you are having burning problems with VCDEasy, then make sure that you've installed the ASPI layer (get ForceASPI) and go to the CDRDAO website that lists which burners are compatible with which "driver". If that doesn't work, CDRWin is a good choice, or else get the newest versions of Nero.
    4. The VCDEasy website: http://www.vcdeasy.org also has a few alternative methods of burning the CUE/BIN image (e.g., mounting the image as a virtual CD with Daemon-Tools and then doing a disc copy).
    5. You can do as what skittelsen said just above too if you don't want chapters... However, this function doesn't exist in every VCD/DVD player. Also, using it usually disables PBC interpretation so it won't work that well if you VCD has menus/chapters/etc.

    Regards.
