  1. Hello!

Im using the method from http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd to convert my spiderman svcd to something that works in my DVD player!

Anyway, I did the first cd fine, it works perfect, but the other two dont!

When I try to convert them it gets to about 50% and gives a buffer underrun error OR gets to about 50%, creating a much smaller, incomplete output file, and then converts the header

I had no problem with the first disc, whats up with the other two (the only difference was that CD1 was burnt to a cd, i was reading the mpg file direct from a cd, these other cds have been virtually mounted as cds)

    Thanks
    James

Put all the SPiderman SVCD's in the same directory, titled as they are are frameserve it into TMPG via DVD2AVI

Make a project as you would to rip a DVD, then in TMPG set up Project files and encode it down to your desired spec's and discs

See to the left under CONVERT

In looking at the Geocities page, it looks as if all they are having you do is remux the clip with VCD headers. If your player is incapable of playing SVCD due to the compression or bandwidths, this will do you no good. See under CONVERT <- as to how to re-encode the SVCD to a VCD.....again, I'd recommend frameserving via dvd2avi into TMPG

  4. Well it did work!

I tested the first disc (as a normal SVCD, just burnt the bin file after downloading) and it didnt work, video was jerky and so was the sound.

I then tried the method on that geocities page and burnt to another cd, it works perfect!

Is there another program out there that will let me change the headers on the mpg files?

    Cheers

Guys I have the same desire to convert this spiderman movie from SVCD to a more common standard (e.g. VCD). The reason is most of my friend's DVD players cannot play SVCD. But I did notice that they all can play XVCD.

Do you guys recommend XVCD over VCD. I think XVCD would be compatible with most of my friends players (so they can borrow some movie disks from time to time).

Thanks for the good news feedback. I'll try this tonight. Why are you interested in other programs? This seemed so short and easy. Do you have another favorite program that you're hoping will also do the trick?

Does anyone know if this method produces VCDs that are as good as SVCDs???

    REF:

Not all DVD players will play SVCD's, and converting SVCD
to VCD is a hassel, takes awhile, and cuts the quality of the
video. Here is a way to put a VCD header on your SVCD to
make you DVD player think it's playing a VCD.

I'm havings exactly the same problems you are with this movie. There looks to be some helpful advice at another thread:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=261722#261722

I might not be able to check it out myself until the weakend but give it a shot and stay in touch. Good luck.

  10. I have tried this conversion because my player wont play SVCD's. I have noticed that players that do play SVCD's will not play this conversion with the VCD header. I have been using this method for some time now and it works great, i love it because it will not depreciated the quality of the player and it only takes 10 minutes or less to add the header. I have a Sony player that will only play VCD's on CDRW's. But when i add the header and put it on a CDRW, it still works fine. I also have a panasonic that dont play SVCD's and it playes fine with the header on both CDR's and CDRW's. I name my movies now SVCDv ( which means SVCD with a VCD header ) ........ i think i might have started something here. =)

  12. Can I just make sure I'm sort-of reading all of this right....I had no idea
when I came to vcdhelp this morning, there would be so much trouble
(like i'm having) with svcd to vcd (esp for spiderman)!

Anyway, it's in SVCD, and I'm trying to make it VCD (or at least mask
    it that way?)

    1. Copy the MPG file to my harddrive
    2. with TMPGEnc, open up the MPG file in "MPEG Tools"
    3. Put the VCD Header on the file as in
    http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd
    4. Then just burn the VCD in Nero, and it should work peachy?

Thanks. (I'm still reaaaading all these posts)

  13. In doing this trick to mask it with a vcd header, I'm getting only
audio, and no video on the output file.

    Any ideas?

The method of the website above and the one one below are quite similar. But I'd like a little discussion on whether just rewriting a SVCD to VCD headers truely gives you a the same quality as SVCD.

How To play MPEG2(svcd) in Panasonic DVD Players
    http://forum.vcdhelp.com/userguides/97090.php

I fixed errors with VCDGear and also used DVD2AVI to make the files read into TMPGEnc. Then I changed it to VCD headers by using Merge/Cut (to my understanding you can use either Merge/Cut or "Simple Multiplex; both rewrites the headers). After this process I get a files size that is about half the size of the original SVCD mpeg and about the same file size as if i re-encoded to VCD. So I can't believe that you can get the same quality as SVCD unless the file sizes is about the same?????
