  1. So... whats the best way to split a movie, with out haveing to use the scroll bar in TMPenc?

Such as for Chapter eXtractor, i notice it does show where the info file says the chapters are. Can that information be used to find a clean break point for parseing the video onto 2 (or more) CD's?

When you see a video on TV, you never see them break it in the middle of some one talking.. and using generic VCD burning, totaly standard, All movies pretty much need to be split. So I'm looking for suggestions for splitting the movie(s) for clean spaning of disks...

    Any suggestions?

  2. Well, what i do is first check the length of the movie....if its 80 mins or less then its good for 1 cd (eg blair witch).....if its over then i clear split it in half (or near enough)....theres no point watching 80 mins of a movie only to have to swap the cd for the last ten minutes.....so try to split it evenly..

all i do to split it evenly is before i encode it, i use the source range setting in tmpgenc to find roughly half way......then scroll left or right to find the nearest scene change and make that my break point...

and thats ur 2 halves.....i also prefer to do it like this instead of doing it all then splitting it later because it seems to give less audio sync problems.

  3. Thanks,

Thats pretty much the way I have been doing it. And from here I found two nice, Mpg's for ending the first half and starting the second half.

Does anyone know a nice software package, that would be good for..say a fade to black? for the split... and a fade IN from black. for second half of the movie?

Until then... I'll keep examining the movies..to see the best location for splitting..

Interesting, when you can see same movie on TV, with a clean break (near as i can tell its clean) at about every 15 min into the movie.

I did try ChapterXtractor.. but its offsets, really wern't a good enough guide for splitting the movie.

    Thanks!

Remember they edit whole movie for TV stuff... And the equipment they use is far superior to anything a normal person could afford...
I have Pinnacle Studio 7 and it can do fades and sweeps and all sorts of stuff.... But I dont really do that...I just split like you said earlier...

However....lately I have been puting just about anything up to 2 hours on 1 disc (nonstandard VCD) my stand alone DVD player supports them so I really cant see using 2 discs for the difference in quality I get.
