Tesco Are now selling the New Dansai 952....... (Brought one Yesterday) It looks suspicously simlar to the Pioneer DV444s.... (No Realy!!) - Very slim in silver! - I have'nt tried the original Dansai 852's region / macro hack on it yet..... I'll give it ago later.
£99.49p - Tesco Store At Bedford ! -
i bought mine from the co op,110 quid plays everything and theres a hack for it to make it region free, its a naiko 2001b worth the cash

In the states I recommend the APEX 1500.. think there may be a newer model of this as the 1500's are harder to find.....
But sold at places here like walmart or circuit city for under $100. (I paid around $55.00 but that was one of those 7am sale things)
Mine plays DVD,VCD,SVCD,CD,CDR, CDRW, MP3 and can be firmware updated to Macro and Region free. I think that it would play a piece of bread if it had data on it. -
Best all-round player now that ASDA's Pacific-750 has been emasculated is the Cyberhome 528. Plays everything, but no macro hack as it stands. You need a macrobuster cable to go with it.
http://www.playstationmods.com/dvd.htm Aso available at Richers Sounds, but currently out of stock, I believe. -
Man i would recommend you buy a MICO it plays everything even those 99min cdrs'.
Can't remember the URL though to the site that was selling it. -

NO,NO,NO! This used to work. About a month ago the Pacific 750s had the ability to disable Macro removed. Now the ability to play VCD has also been removed. ASDA has a sign next to the players to the effect that the Pacific does not play VCDs. Although the manual says it plays VCD, stickers have now been placed on the front of the manual saying that it does not. It is not a good buy anymore! 8)

Thanks Dragonsf.
AFAIK there is no macro hack for the later versions of the Pacific. Just count yourself lucky you don't have one of the present range, which have VCD playing disabled. 8)
Best bet to defeat macro is to get a special macro-busting scart cable. Otherwise you invalidate your 3-year ASDA guarantee. Innovations do one, as does Playstationmods http://www.playstationmods.com/dvd.htm Maplin might also have them. They cost between £20 and £30. -
Thanks alot thinking about it getting cable unit also makes it portable if one of me mates want to borrow it seems to make sense cheers
