I have an original VCD from Japan. Plays just fine on my DVD player, however it will not play on my computer. Power DVD hangs, and media player tell me it can't support it. I extracted the DAT with ISO Busters and and created a new VCD using Nero, yet same results.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks![]()

once the .dat is extracted with isobuster, can you play it in mediaplayer? if not, what version of media player do you have?

No, I get an error message from Media Player saying format is not supported, Power DVD just hangs. I started thinking maybe it is a SVCD, but the label states it is a VCD 2.0. The media player version have is version 8, which came with XP, which I am running

Some more info about this file. TMPGEnc will only shows the audio if I try to demux it. If I try to cut it, it reports an invalid mpeg stream. The only info I can get about this mpeg is from vdub. Under file information it shows the frame size is 538x2, 2147347.456 fps. What type of mpeg is that? If this was originally encoded incorrectly, why does it play perfectly in my stand alone DVD player? Doesn't make any sense to me. There has to be a way to extract the video from the audio and re encode.
Thanks -
Firstly, extract the disc to a CUE/BIN image (can do so with CDRWin -- even the demo -- or with CDRDAO). VCDEasy is a GUI to all the necessary tools (including CDRDAO) so you may want to use that.
Once you have the CUE/BIN image, trying using VCDXRIP (one of the proggies in the VCDImager package on it to extract all the goodies from it). You can use VCDEasy as a GUI to VCDXRIP as well if you don't like using command console tools.
Alternatively, you could try using VCDGear on the CUE/BIN image.
Your VCD probably has a screwed up filesystem (perhaps to prevent casual copying!). Stand-alone players don't actually read the filesystem, however, and actually directly accesses predetermined sectors on the disc which is why this VCD still works.

Outstanding, thank you. Before downloading I tried the programs I had on hand. Made an image with clonecd, then used vcdgear to make an mpeg. Plays great. Then made an new image with vcdgear, burned a compliant vcd that plays on both computer and dvd player
Thank you for your help!!!
