Hello just woundering if someone could suggest "great" encoding settings using TMPEGnc for the following.....(as viewed through DVD2AVI)
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Frame Rate: 29.970 fps
Video Type: NTSC
Frame Type: Interlaced
I have done many of these rips before and i have tried a number of different combinations in TMPGEnc but i still seem to get just "alright" results, and i want better if not GREAT results. So if anyone has done the same kinda rips please let me know your settings to achive greatness...
Thanx

i have been doing the same type of rips for a while now, but you did not mention if it is for vcd or just computer use only, and how large do you want the file to be. is the interlaced film the problem?
MY SETTINGS:
first pick Mpeg1 or Mpeg2
then the resolution, it you are just playing it on a computer pick the aspect
ratio to 1:1 and use and pick any one resolution
320+240
384+288
448+336
512+384
640+480 any one of these will give the correct apect ratio for full
screen on a computer
For the interlace, you must deinterlace for a computer screen or it will look horrible. to fix this go to deinterlace and double click and choose odd
field or even. i would not choose double unless you want a soft look.
since you seem to want good quality choose 512+384 and a high bitrate. -

You can also select 3:2 Pulldown for encoding, which will eliminate you having to de-interlace.

It's a good setting for encoding captured video that's interlaced. Just hover your mouse over the Encode Mode under the video tab for more info.
