  6. I use Kazaalite because

    1. it's very simple to use
    2. I can find anything i want (software espically)
    3. Movies arent 700mb+, good for 56k.
    4. average 1.5 million people on constantly
    5. you don't have to share if you have a crappy connection speed
    6. 200 search results
    7. segmented downloading
    many more..

I can't say all that about any other file sharing program.

All I have to say is...

Usenet. Well indexed binary posts, many with info files, samples etc..

Gotta love the irony of the world's ISPs using their pipes to distribute countless gigs of movies & warez to servers which are only a hop over the wire from their customers, hence supreme speed..

Problem with usenet depends on your server retention length. With mines for binary newsgroups its 1 1/2 days then they are purged.

With usenet, 60% of the time htey are incomplete; posted into many multiple files meaning more work for you to be sure you have every part.

My connection at home sucks ass these days, so I don't download from here.. My work has 2x155Mbps pipes, but no news server.

Easynews (and their supreme auto-decoding web interface) and Newsbin.

$5/month and around 50 days retention on binaries. I'm more than happy to pay that purely for the ease with which things can be obtained.

But hey.. to each his own.

  12. I use Xolox v1.13 because it allows you to download from multiple servers and will pick up where you left off if the connection is dropped. The authors discontinued development and deactivated the "official" version but there are cracked versions out there that still work. It has a very simple interface and is very fast.

I only use it to download ENTERPRISE episodes if I miss them when they air. The current episode is always available a couple days after it airs. I don't believe in downloading pirated movies and perfer to purchase the DVD.

    WTF?!
and the difference between dl tv shows and movies is what.............?
Incase your not aware of this, theres this invention thats been around for a while now, its called a VCR, it allows you to tape tv shows if your going to miss them. You might want to check into them, then you wouldnt have to do anything wrong like download things from the internet, that would be so wrong.

  14. Ok... this is how I see it... I can either capture a TV episode on my PC ...or I can download it from the internet. So what is the difference?

And FYI, I own 2 VCRs and a TiVo. I also have satellite tv and most of the time record the shows myself. I haven't downloaded an episode for at least 6 months and even then it was only because my TiVo didn't record the episode for some reason.

Here is how I see the difference between downloading movies and tv shows...

    Downloading movies = piracy:

Why?: Because the media is intended for a paying audience... first in the theater and then on VHS or DVD. It was never entended for free viewing. Also, why download crappy quality movies from the internet when I can pick up a high quality copy on DVD?

Downloading TV episodes = not piracy:

Why?: Because the media is intended for free showing on television. I can tape the episode on my VCR, capture it on my PC or download it from the internet. Granted, the later option may be a grey area according to the networks and studios (probably because the downloaded episodes do not include commercials... but I fast forward the commercials anyways when I watch them off the air); but I can't understand why they would care if they showed it for free on the airwaves just days prior. Also, not everyone has access to a UPN Network affiliate. So this is actually broadening their viewer base. TV shows are generally not available on VHS or DVD until at least several years later... if ever.

I suppose the studio may one day wish to release TV episodes on VHS or DVD and some viewers who have downloaded the episodes may not purchase the episodes when they are released on VHS or DVD. However, this problem has existed since the consumer VCR was released. Also, I purchase DVDs of my favorite TV shows once they are released even if I have them on tape or VCD. So the studio still makes the same profit.

    Make sense?

If the networks were smart, then they would make the episodes available for download with included tv commercials and increase the viewers... especially for those consumers who are unable to receive over-the-air broadcasts of that network.

Just to let you know, you can pick up the high quality goods. I bet you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between a svcd dvd rip and the dvd if you saw it playing on a t.v.
As far as what is piracy and what isnt, uless your getting your copy of your tv show direct off the shows internet site, its PIRACY. Hope thats not going to keep you up late at night tossing and turning thinking about how your being a bad bad bad boy

The unofficial word from a couple of the big studios is that they aren't too concerned about TV bootlegging - more bothered about their DVDs being ripped left right and center.

As for 'why would one bother downloading', I live in England, and shows like Buffy, Enterprise (insert endless list here) etc take months before they screen over here.

Fortunately one's g/f lives in Atlanta, so we all chipped in and got her kitted out with a Pinnacle DV500 and a serious uplink. That's how sad we are 8)

  17. Of coarse it's intended for money, but 7$ to see a movie is way to much. Not to mention the cost of food which is also overpriced. I guess it was just a matter of time before the movie industry got a taste of what music companies go through.

these forums tend to get offf topic!! the question was : what programs do you use. i have used kazaa mainly, but now i'm into edonkey, its slow, but good, if you have the time to wait. as for irc.....its shit and your welcome to it!! [/quote]

i have seen a slogan that was very apropriate: "WE WERE ALL NEWBIES ONCE"

  19. tenders' kazaa is ok and so is edonkey but for the quality stuff, it's either mirc or the news groups. It all about where to go. I've tried winmx, several gnutella apps, direct connect and quite frankly they just don't do it for me. Most of them don't have that much on them offer slow downloads.

I'll take that as a complement however I upgraded my "slogan" look down

As for irc, I learned how to use but just can't seem to figur out how people can say it has great speeds, I've only got speeds around 14 kbs/sec.

If someones willing to tell me where to get the great speeds using irc, I'm listening

    talk toyou soon

  22. Edonkey has been good to me & the sharereactor site has links to good servers.

in re to bprothero: I love downloading. I'm not going to stop. I could care less about some antiquated, unpopular, and twisted laws designed by the greedy. You can fool and suppress the public only so long...

Great speeds on IRC = non existent, u wait forever on the file servers for hjust a few rars.
ill just stick with newsgroups n let it all jus roll in, god bless the creators of par files.

  24. What groups do you guys use on the news servers? I find it hard to find some files, such as the other day I was trying to find a copy of The Fast and the Furious but I was unable to.

I don't know, I get pretty good speeds off the xdcc bots. 152KB/sec is 1216kps which is getting pretty close to my maximum dl speed.

  26. the last time i was at xdcc there were like 1000ppl on there, how u managed to get a dowload spot ill never know, it takes way to long just to root through all the file servers

  27. I mostly use Kazaa for downloading large files like movies and software. For me one of the coolest feature in Kazaa download resume. Kazaa has capability to resume downloads even after I get disconnected or the other user disconnects though download speed varies and can be extremely slow or good.
