So far I've been using DVDx to go from DVD to Avi, about 3gb, then TMPGenc to convert the AVI to Mpeg, about 8gb. Size isn't really a problem.
What I want to know is, what is the best program to use to go staight from DVD to a good video format? I dont want to use Divx cause it takes 5 years for players to load the file and u cant skip well with it.
Is there any other good formats apart from Divx/avi or Mpeg1-2? That play well?
Thanks.

Discounting DivX, the next best format is SVCD. A CQ-encoded SVCD will be indistinguishable (by humans), if done properly from a DVD. 8)
