WinRAR is a non lossy form of compression similar to WinZIP. Files are compressed in such a way as the 'exact' copy of the original exists but in a compressed state.

It is odd - no.. very odd for a video to be in this format since is will add to the file size.

Mpeg4 (divx) mpeg1, mpeg2 are ALL forms of 'lossy' (data lost in compression) video compresion. If you suspect the file is still a video then try renaming it with a video extension -> .avi , .mpg, .mpe ...... and see if VirtualDub imports it.

  5. .rar is like a file with .zip extention, just download the winrar software from www.winrar.com and use that program to extract the original file.
Usualy winrar is used to split up a large mpegs into smaller files wich can be sent through news or email. Those files will normaly be named like .r01 .r02 etc. Just load the first file into winrar and winrar will load the rest by itself (asuming they are in the same directory)

  7. nero can burn it, FILE --- BURN IMAGE -- load up the cue sheet

movies that are rared up are usally vcd's
if they are avi's then they are usally divx encoded avi's
