  1. Hi is there a certain type of blank CD that will provide better quality SVCD's or are they all the same??

  2. The true digital quality of a movie will not be changed by burning on a certain media - only bits in plastic.

But - certain players have love & hate of certain media. Some players don't like certain discs. You can ask around or do trial & error - the combinations of brands & players is nearing the number of grains of sand on a beach.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  5. Would be kinda like compairing it to burning an audio/mp3 CD for your car.. the higher speed you record you may notice more skips when going over smaller bumps. Slowing your speed down to 12x or 8x usually does the trick.

i can vouch for burning at lower speeds, i cannot burn at over 8x without my vcds skipping. I now burn at 4 or 8x for better playback

  7. Cause and effect...

The problem is not the burn speed, it is your player.

Some players aren't designed for CD-R/W media and for some people, lower burn speeds mean that their players struggles less when reading the things.

If you have a good player that is designed to read CD-R/W media, you can burn at the max speed and should have no problems (assuming your media and burner can handle it of course).

  8. i agree with player compatibility. my apex allow for 24x burned cds with absolute no problems at all. i don't see the point in having a player that can't read slow burned cds....

  9. It seems that the cheapie basic DVD's will play just about anything you throw at them but the more expensive high end models are more particular.
