  1. I plan to be burning a lot of these for customers so I want the time-saving ability of 2X more than I want a really cheap disc. So here are what I found to be the best deals.

First off, these are brands between 2-5 dollars, claiming to be 2X compatible. Has anyone heard good or bad things about any of these? They all swear up and down to be the best...

    Disc Makers: http://www.discmakers.com/rom/product_pages/blankdvdr.html

    cd-recordables.com:

    HHB @ tapeworld.com:

    Silver 2X Pro-grade: http://www.americal.com
Search for: 702757 (they're less than 4 bucks each in bulk)

And FYI here are the best deals I found on the 2X brand names:

    Verbatim, 4.99 per disc:

    Mitsui (unbranded), 5.50 per disc:

If you've tried any of these 2X media or have heard anything, please share it!

Check out my media reports in this forum under CD & DVD Writers: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89891

There I have explained what has happend to me and various media... also note that I have had bad issues with the few cd-recordables.com disk I have gotten, however they CLAIM that their new version of their disk fixes these issues... I have 5 more on the way for testing...

My general advice? Be very wary of the cheap DVD-R media... some of it is ok for short movies but bombs when you have to fill the disk up...

  3. Ahh, I wish I had found that thread in my searches.

I look forward to hearing how your new test goes. I guess the thing for me to do also is to buy a couple of each brand and test them as much as I can.

Thing is, paying 7 or 8 bucks per disc for brand names is really going to squeeze my profit margin. Conversely, if I get non-working discs returned by tons of angry customers that will also suck.

And where do I find the apple media discs? They don't even seem to be on Apple's website. They'll write at 2X even on an A04 in a PC?

  4. In fact, if you've definitely got some on the way, I'll test other brands and wait to hear your evulation of cd recordables, before buying any from them.

I have gotten apple's disk from apple:

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/133/wo/7Yk5M1an8b4TvF2....30.8.3.0.13.0

as well as at my local Fry's stores...whos online site is: www.outpost.com

AND from my local Apple store...

If you are selling the disk apple is really the best to go with they burn at 2x, and since they are rebranded pioneers for cheaper then pioneers own disk they have great compatability... the only down side is the 5 dollars per disk thing..heh have fun.
