I have read many articles before asking this so I'm not being lazy for sure
I just can't figure out how to make the resolution higher than 480x480 when I use DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 and CCE 2.50.01.00.
I mean there's a tab for bitrate , that's clear but where is the tab to set the resolution? Or am I not understanding something here!?
Here's what I want to do : I have the dvd "THE OTHERS" that has a resolution of 720x480. What I want to do is use DVD2SVCD & CCE to create a XSVCD (which is the name of the format I want according to what I read) since it goes over the Mpeg2 standard I'm aware it might not play in my dvd player but I don't care since all I want for now is to create the highest quality SVCD that I can and play it on my computer only.
So far I've been able to create a SVCD in 480x480 and it looks good but I'm just wondering about the pixels that flicker in the background when I get closer to the screen and that's why I'd like to make it better. I've already tried to raise the bitrate and it seems to make no difference.
I'd like to know if anyone has any recommendation for me to get the best quality possible in terms of bitrate and resolution ratio that I should use.

I would also be interested how to change this....
But Haplo: I am not sure if you problem will be solved by changing the resolution. You are talking about a DVD resolution; this also means that you average bitrate has to be more than 4000kbs, otherwise you will be only creating more macroblocks..........
But I am still interested how this can be done, as I would like to create a CVD with DVD2SVCD.The Dutchman -
First, if it ain't 480x480, it's NOT an SVCD. Second, the MPEG2 standard has no connection to resolution specs for a specific disk. Third, there is no mandatory bitrate for any resolution, it depends on resolution, noise, smoothing, level of action, etc.
To answer the question, I am pretty sure DVD2SVCD does the resizing in an AVISYNTH script before feeding to CCE, you could just stop it at that point, change the resize parameters, and restart DVD2SVCD. I don't recall any place to set these parameters within the program. -
Hi,
I just found an answer to the question in another post:

Thank you all! I finally found where to do it because of you but I still need to know what parameters to input in there...
When the Avisynth script comes up, I entered
SimpleResize(720,480)
AddBorders(0,60,0,60)
because I want a resolution of 720x480 but I guess it doesn't work that way since I got a message soon after saying that the resolution of 720x600 is not acceptable or something like that!!!???
I never input 720x600 anywhere so I'm wondering what settings to input in there so I can encode to a res of 720x480.
thanks. -
You need to get rid of the "AddBorders" command (480 + 60 + 60 =600): it's needed to "pad" the original aspect ratio to get the SVCD compliant 480x480 - don't know what the effect will be on playback without it , though.....
Another thing; do you really need to resize? I thought the resolution of a DVD was already 720x480. -

"AIN'T" SVCD? I just love how American's talk! He clearly stated XSVCD, and if you don't know what XSVCD is then dont' bash someone with your half-ass english.

My intention was to assist him or her in furthering their level of understanding, and to better illuminate the question.
The use of the term "ain't", which by the way is a colloquialism approved for informal use according to Webster's, was intended to provide emphasis.
For a country universally known for their excessive use of an interrogative interjection, you really should try to 1) read more carefully, 2) perhaps read again and make sure you understand what you are reading, 3) desist from criticizing unless you know what the hell you are talking about, you dumbshit. -
if you want the highest quality I'm assuming you used bicubic resize and cce 4 pass vbr and a decent bitrate. If not then try a chapter with those settings and you won't see any blocks.
