I bought Forrest Gump off of Ebay and it has this yellow sticker on it. I haven't seen this before, and it will not work on my Sony DVP S550D DVD player. It will work on my computer DVD drive, however.

Is this a VCD or some other funky configuration, or is it simply defective?

  2. your player should play a dual layer dvd, but is it from the same region as you (ie north america, europe...)?

It is a region 1 DVD. Actually, I was playing around in desparation and got it to work. I put the DVD in, shut the DVD off, then held down the play button when I turned it back on. Surprise, it worked! However, the picture is not as crisp/clear as my other DVDs. The disk looks original.

But, what is a dual layer DVD and how is it different than a regular one? I've seen dual layer 7 and 9. What's this mean?

  4. dual layer is actually what it says you've got 2 layers of info on the disk,
the top layer is like a single layer dvd the bottom one is translucent so the lazer can see both. the bottom layer is usually smaller soething like 3 gigs if i remember well. as 2 the 9 i can't seem to remeber right now but i'll look around to refind the info...

  5. MicheleU,
I don't know why you can't get it to work but I think I should point out that most commercialy made dvd are in fact dual layer discs.
