  4. I got a Lite On unit last year at Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving for $30 after rebate (and it is a 16x unit). I wasn't expecting much for that price but the sucker has yet to hiccup and Nero sees it as a full 16x burner. It rocks!

Get one with the most flashing lights..

Seriously though the lite-on or LG 16x or even a 12x would be more than good enough.

WHY ??? Many here ,myself included, burn at slower speeds - 2 or 4 so why waste money on a product which you won't use to it's full potential.

  6. I have a lite-on & like it but they can be quirky (I had to exchange a 24x since it couldn't keep a disc in). My new 32x won't eject at times.

Some people swear by plextor. Pricey but reliable.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  7. My Cyberdrive CW058 is 32x12x48,supports 99min cd-r and was $64(US).
It was highly rated by several web-sites and I felt it had the most features
    for the money.

  9. Just got a USB Lite-On and a USB 2.0 card to take advantage of the speed. Amazingly fast at 32x! Would recommend if you are looking for external drive.

  10. I recently got the 24x Lite-On burner. It is an extremely good drive and bests the features of much more expensive comparable units.

But don't take it from me. http://www.cdrinfo.com has some good reviews on a number of units.

    Regards.

I have been using the PleXwriter 40/12/40A now for 3 months, whoossshhhh.

Trouble is I already have 2000 16X disks aaaaagggggghhhhhh But I can write to them at 24X, the writer comes with a few blank CDR and 1 CDR-W.

One thing is for sure, with all the cd writer software about, you wont ever scrap a disk again.

You wont buy ANYTHING better, but it is a lot more expensive than most of the "lower quality" writers.

  12. I picked up a Lite-On 40x/12x/48x and it has been solid. Nero even detects it. Only problem was finding media that is rated at those speeds. Great Quality (GQ) brand CD-R's from Fry's (www.outpost.com) have been okay. They are now rated up to 40x. And $7 for 50 700 MB disks is a great price. For CD-RW I found CompUSA's brand which is rated from 8x-10x will burn at 12x in my Lite-On.

  13. Thanks to all who replied! I finally decided just to go with the Plextor...it only burns 40x for half the disc or something, but I've only heard good things about them as far as quality goes. And also, I found it for 128 bucks, which I heard is pretty damn good for the 40/12/40. Thanks dudes. See ya around.

I have 3 Lite-On CD Burners 2- 24x10x40 and 1- 40x12x48 all three have never given me any trouble unless I try to use Easy CD Creator instead of nero... buy a Lite-On 40x12x48 (about $120.00) and stick with nero best cd burner for your money!

  16. Just as a little test, with the Plexwriter that I decided to buy, I tried burning at 20x with some 12x cd-r's that I stole from my sister. It worked! The final product is flawless. I'm really happy with this burner, thanks for all the suggestions though!

  17. I have a plextor 12x10x40x that I am very happy with. I have built many computers for other people with lite-on writers and they are very good. The prices here are too much though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Newegg sells the 40x lite on writer for $68 (OEM) $70(Retail) where did you get one for $120 that is way too much!!!!!

I bought the 40x Lite-On like a month agao in Kansas City MO in a store called Hypertech Comp.. I checked prices all around Kansas City and $120.00 is the best deal i could find.. I think prices might be higher there than most elsewhere.. in any event looks like i got ripped off.. i'll check prices better next time

  19. I bought my Lite On 40x burner a couple/few months ago when they were just out. I waited till they went from $180 to $120 before I bought. I'm sure they are much less by now. We all know what buying any hardware is like.

  20. Plextor = you pay for having plextor written on your burner
Dont waste your money on plextor, you can get say an LG, lite-on, or sony at the same speed for about half the price and they will all support overburning and burnProof, and be just as reliable as the plextor.

  21. Yes. I agree. Plextor likes to bend you over and give it to you up your cracker without lubricant. It's just a name. Over rated and over priced.

I've had Lite-On, Asus, CyberDrive, Acer, Sony, LG, Ricoh drives and so far I have found the Lite-On to be the best with regards to overburn capabilities and excellent buffer under-run protection.

  22. Hot damn. Well so far ive only owned a sony CRX120E and it was great, ofcourse it didnt support overburning or BURNproof, but it was still good, then i bought a pioneer DCR-111 (12xW/10xRW/40XR/12XDVD) and i saw an exact same plextor drive for about double the price of the pioneer, with exactly the same features. WTF?
