  1. I use TMPGEnc to convert my Digital Video PAL AVI file to NTSC mpeg2. When the camera pans sideways I see a pronounced jerky motion in the film. Is there a way to smooth out this jerkiness or does TMPGEnc just stuff in an extra frame once in a while to get up to 30 fps?

If this has been discussed in the past, please point me to the appropriate thread.

    Your help will be appreciated,

Use the search option. Where do you suppose the extra frames actually come from, when going from 25 to 29.37? 8)

  3. Thanks. I found another disucssion where you suggest to convert to NTSC film 24 fps. I planed to burn DVDs using my HP DVD200i. Is there a DVD NTSCfilm template? I see them for VCD and SVCD but no one for DVD.

Would a NTSCfilm work as a DVD file? The DVD authoring software MyDVD from Sonic probably would complain.

Well, I'm in terra ingognita here. 8) But http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvd.htm suggests a DVD NTSC(film) should be feasible. You can always create your own by using the unlock template.

  5. I unlocked the SuperVideoCD (NTSCfilm).mcf template and changed the appropriate parameters to DVD settings. The good news was that the DVD burner software recognized this as a valid NTSC file for burning. Also, the jerkiness was smoothed out. The bad news was that interlacing noise was introduced that made this picture slighty worse than a straight PAL to NTSC conversion with extra frames.

I think I'll live with the jerkiness but a better quality picture until more US TV sets can receive PAL.
