  1. Hey guys, i just got a new song dvd, its a dav s500, so it should play cdr's. How do i go about burning a VCD. I have a cd burner. am i just meant 2 burn an mpeg accorss. i tried that but nothing happened. dvd player said 'cannot play' what am i doing wrong, i copied a plain mpeg (a song film clip) straight onto the cd and nothing happened when i did that.

To create a vcd, is that all i was supposed to do, that is, copy an mpeg onto a cd? thanks

  3. Being a fellow newbie, figured I'd see what I can do to help you....

Aside from reading the guides (which can rot your brain if you are a non-techie because their is so much info), the easiest 1st timer thing is to take your mpeg file (hopefully it is smaller than 500-800 meg) is to use a product like nero or Roxio's CD creator. Since I am only familier with Nero, all you do is open it up select cread video CD, select the mpeg file and burn it (recommend burning at a low speed like 2-6X).

After the CD is created, open up each of the folders (can't remember the right one off the top of my head) until you find a file that is around the same file size as the original mpeg and double click on it to play it (you can play it in windows meadia player, etc.). If it plays, you are sorta there. The big test is will it play on your stand alone DVD player. If it is a VCD compatible (list is under DVD compatibility list to the left of this post) it "should" work.

Since there was a lot of info left out of your post, I can only generalize about making VCD's for you. There are a host of things that go with this. The final VCD looks like crap, need to change bit rate and setting, etc. Let me know a little more info and I'll see if I can help.
