  1. ive searched the forums and found it strange, i cant find anybody that wanted to know how to create a Dobly Pro Logic DVD-R. i usually rip my dvd with dvdecrypter, create a wav and project file with dvd2avi, then re-encode with tmpgenc and finally burn with nero. however this leaves me with dvd-r's that play fine, and have sound, but its not dolby digital. i dont care about 5.1, i just want pro logic, does anyone know how to do this?

Is this .AC3 that you are refering to? If so, you don't have to do any conversions. Many DVD authoring programs will import this directly (and TMPG will multiplex it with the .M2V video).

  4. well all i know is that the way ive been ripping my dvds, the little light on my reciever that says Dolby Digital does not light up and I cannot get the sound to go through my receiver. however if i take any of my original store bought dvds, the dolby digital light always goes on...so maybe its not that im looking for pro logic sound, i just need to know what i need to do when ripping a dvd so that i can get dolby digital sound on my dvd-r's. i suppose i asked about pro logic because i figured i only REALLY wanted two channels, as thats all i have on my reciever. so 5.1 would take up more space that i really wanted. however if thats the only way to get the dolby digital sound then i guess i have no choice...so how do i rip the dolby digital sound stream, and what do i do with it in TMPGenc? Thanks for your input guys.

  6. Hi,

use i.e. DVD2AVI and check in the Audio menu --> Dolby Digital --> Decode and Dolby Prologic Downmix and you are set.

    Have fun - RenderMan.

Hey this might not be the answer to your question but you and PhilipL should probably check out www.dolby.com.It will explain all there is to know about the diffrences about dolby pruducts.

Dolby Prologic is a method of encoding into NORMAL stereo sound information to provide surround sound on compatible equipment.
In this sentence you need to loose the word into

Prologic is just normal two channel stereo with an extra signal hidden in it, and survives most compression methods. You do need Dolby Digital to get Dolby Prologic.
this first sentence is right but the second is wrong. Dolby prologic is like you said an encoding method using 2 channel stereo

If you are meaning you want to take a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal from a DVD and then just have Dolby Prologic I do not think you can. Dolby Digital 5.1 doesn't have a hidden Prologic signal, however I think DVD players can take a 5.1 Dolby Digital track and make it a Stereo signal with hidden Prologic for compatibility with Prologic TVs etc, sort of Downmixing, but there is no software to do this on a computer as far as I am aware.
This is kind of right but most commercial dvd' have all the surround formats on them, just look in the set-up menu on the dvd

    Hope this helps

what dvd authoring programs import ac3 and m2v directly? and how?

  9. what i am doing now is using smartripper to rip the ac3 audio stream, then using dvdecrypter to rip the vobs cause i like that program better. im now using spruce up to import the m2v file, and as long as that file is the exact same filename as the .ac3 file in the same directory, it automatically imports the audio stream as well.

  10. dvation, what version of spruce do you have? i got the 1106 demo and it does not work, it starts to load the files, then hangs at 99%.

  11. yea i had that hang for me too at 99% when the mpeg i imported had ac3 audio...apparently it doesnt work that way. what ive been doing to make it work is this...

i rip the ac3 stream with smartripper

then i rip the vob files with dvdecrypter

i rip out everything except the movie with ifo edit

i make a project out of the new vobs with dvd2avi

i import the project into tmpgenc and re-ecode the movie at the bitrate i need

i then mux the ac3 and mpg with tmpgenc

i then demux the resulting movie with tmpgenc which leaves me with an .ac3 file and an .m2v file, both with the same file name

i then import the .m2v file with spruce and it automatically imports the ac3 after it processes the movie stream.

...im using spruce version 1.1 build 1106
