  1. Ok, I am presently using TMPG to encode a 719MB avi file. My encoder states that the encoded size will be 198 minutes and I am going to be at 252.44% of disk capacity.......What the h*ll am I doing wrong, it appears to me that the encoded file will be to large to burn to cd (with Nero) or is that just encoded size????? Also, what is a good aspect ratio to encode to?????

    Thanks.........

You know standard VCD compliant MPG1 is 1150kps for bit rate...If you file is 198 minutes thats about two 700mb CDRs...
Thing about encoding is you can do nonstandard VCD.... Where you can choose bitrate ....Remember lower bitrate equals lower quality....
Lets see thats about 3 hrs and 18 minutes... I would split that on to two CDRs especialy if you want to keep good quality....say for something like Pearl Harbor...

  3. my problem is that the above avi is just half of the movie and I have a second avi that is 683MB un-encoded, that is about 1.3 GB total...... So I am not sure how to fit on just two cd's or if it is even possible...........This stuff is hard to understand....

The reason I said PearlHarbor was I just encoded it and it was 183 minutes total...I used 2 -700mb disks one was 713mb two was 704

  5. For a standard VCD, you can fit 74min on a 74min disc and 80min on an 80min disc.

Did you load the VCD template on TMPGEnc?

  6. MaDmiZe - question for you.

I have been trying to encode Pearl Harbor for the longest time (3 days already). I am currently using DVDx 1.8a. Have a P4 1.6 GIg, 384MB, Toshiba DVD Player.

The file is burned using either EZ CD Creator 5.0 or Nero 5.5.8.0.

Problem is that when I try to play the VCD every once in a while the audio pauses then starts again.

It is not just with Pearl Harbor but with several DVD as well.

I had used a combination of Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI and TMPE before but this method I can not use subtitle because i'm trying to rip japanese anime with subtitle in it.

What am I doing wrong? any suggestion anyone?

I always go ..Smartrip>DVD2Avi>TPMGenc... Never used anything else that works as well.
If its happening with more than one VCD...Look for things in common..
    Are these VCD or SVCD?
Do they play fine on computer DVD player?
Does your dvd player suport VCD, CDR, CDRW?
Do you know what the highest bitrate supported by your standalone unit ? (if thats what we are talking about)
Cause I read a couple people saying that the had problems with DVD player getting over loaded (hard to belive) but they lowered bitrate they encode at and problem went away.
    Just food for thought....

  8. MaDmiZe,

The movie is about 3 hours total and when I got it, it was broken into the two halves already. I am presently encoding right now but not sure if it is right what I am doing. I went ahead with the standard VCD templete but when I went through set-up this time (TMPGEnc) I went ahead and set-up the starting and stopping point and then I got about 95 % disk capacity for file #1. Please let me know if this is right or if I am wasting my time....

    Thanks for your help......

Sounds right... File one should fit on one disk...file two on one disk....
You could mess with bitrates and get 1:30 maybe 2:00 hours per disk, but when you have such a big file ...best to just split down the middle and save quality and use two disks...
Let me know how it turns out.
