  1. Unlucky Ireland, what a game they definately deserved to win it in extra time. Now you know how the English feel. Fu**ing penalty shoot outs.

Ireland were so unlucky to go out to a negative Spain, Ireland deserved to win. It was strange, that even though I support England, watching Ireland gave me the same feeling as watching England in a penalty shoot out. I couldn't help but feel sorry for those boys afterwards... but at least they went out in style and gave it their best throught the game.

  3. You've got to feel for Ian Harte, if he had put that penalty away, the Irish could have been in the quarters along with England.
Hard lines boys, you deserved to win.

I know Ember but my fear is that more teams will copy England style trying achieve better results. Did you see Sweden x Senegal? I like that game. A lot of good chances to both teams. I think that England and Sweden are good enough to play in attack and win their games. Sweden proved it in last game. The victory was near.

Did you see Diouf playing? He is a great player. Why nobody here is talking about the great players of the Cup? What is the best until now?

awful is'nt it? i'll feel very depressed.losing on penalties is terrible. i dont know how english people survived losing 3 shootouts in 8 years! spain were playing for the pens after we scored. we deserved to win! phibes, that just goes to show the attacking team won't always win! still, at least we had a good world cup and werent beaten (in 90 minutes anyway).
i hope that italy (should they beat korea) thrash spain, and they won't play for pens (they went out of the last 3 world cups on shootouts!)

  6. Well, Brazil don't look quite so good when there's some opposition on the pitch. I think the 2-0 scoreline was rather flattering to Brazil, and Belgium deserved much more out of the game.

  7. Nice win for Brazil. But the best, most competitive team DID NOT win. Belgium had some great chances and great possession - they just did not convert. First signs of negative play from Brazil - now they are playing better European sides.

Brazil played terrible. Our coach doesn't listen anyone. All country is asking to put Kleberson or Ricardinho (you don't know them) and take off Juninho. Klberson passed the ball to Ronaldo in second goal. The problem is that Ronaldo run 15 times for games waiting for the ball, but players like Juninho carry it to much and kills the attack. Have you seen that? With 5 minutes in game Kleberson took the ball and passed to Ronaldo. Goal.
If our coach put one of these two players my bet is Brazil but with the last game team England has great chances.

Boss, I've never said the attacking team always wins. I said that I like to watch games where both teams attack.

    South Korea beat Italy.

    2 : 1

Spain and South Korea in Kwangju on June 22. That's where I was born and grew up.

  11. Great performance from S Korea! Excellent. Now the other teams will fear you more!

Ok - this is sort of an epitaph but I feel like saying it now: I am proud of what England have achieved with Sven. They are playing to their strengths and not their weakness (unlike under Kevin Keegan) and some players have grown up in this competition to become world class. For the first time in years I have flown my national flag. For a long period it was associated with facist parties in England, but now I think the nation has taken it back. I will continue to fly it upto and including the final, whatever the outcome.
Hope everyone has enjoyed the world cup. It's nice to know that the sport is appreciated so widely.

  12. The match between Korean & Italy was great. It seems Italy was unlucky at this time, one of the player (Totti) got a yellow card for diving, and out of the game, but actually not, that should be a penalty kick for Italy, well, the referee made mistake for that call. It would have been more exciting if these two teams win by penalty kicks

I have no idea. I didn't watch anything at all. I just read postings in Korean, British, US, and international sites like this one. It is possible the judge was wrong. However, the key reason was the will to win, the determination and tenacity. Italian team was wrong to disregard the relationship with the match in 1966 against North Korea but the situation was the same in my view.

    ROTF... and goodbye Italy!
Another favorite bites the dust. Well done to South Korea for embarrasing Italy like that. Italy were criminal: to have that amount of talent on the pitch and sit on a 1 goal lead for the entire game, it's criminal! LOL
Italy got what they deserved, undoubtedly Italy are a far better team and should have taken South Korea to the cleaners, instead, they played (and ALWAYS seem to play) what is always a risky tactic; to score one goal and then sit on it for the rest of the game. If they had played with the determination that South Korea showed, Italy would have cleaned up. Spain played like it against Ireland and were lucky to go through, Italy weren't so lucky and deserve no sympathy for losing a game that they could so easily have won if they had turned on the heat.

Anyway, for those that get BBC1, they will be showing the classic 1970 Brazil-England showdown tomorrow night (I think). See the much talked about 1970 Brazilian team in action against the previous winners England. From Bobby Moore's superb defending (interesting to watch as Rio Ferdinand is now being compared to him), to possibly one of the best saves ever seen in a World Cup: Gordon Banks denying Pele. The match serves as a reminder of football at it's best, a classic match from the what is considered to be the best World Cup ever. Lets hope fridays game will be as good.

Speaking of england vs brazil 1970, what do people actually think of gordon banks's save? i think it was a very easy save because pele's header just bounced straight off the ground, so there was no power or direction in it. thus an easy save to make. I don't know why there is so much fuss over it! speaking of classic world cup games for me it would have to be england vs. argentina at mexico '86. that game had everything! i was browsing through bbci a few weeks ago, and they were showing the match. i decided to look at the match, and i was just in time to see maradonna score the greatest world cup goal of all time! very strange. it sent a shiver down my spine!

  22. Baldrick! Are you Swedish?, that rocks if you are. Cause i´m too! Sweden just got to the 1/8 finals but thats good anyway. But watch out for Sweden next world cup and Euro cup!! These are some players that will develop into great players, i hope.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - He´s the one that almost score in the game against Senegal! The best even now in my opinion!

Anders Svensson - He did the wonderful and nice freekick against Argentina.

Tobias Linderoth - The defensive and offensive midfielder, he took everything.

Andreas Andersson - Will be a so-great player then!

Andreas Jokobsson - A great defender, didn´t made a mistake in this world cups!!

Kim Kjallstrom - A young talented soccer-player, he´s great even
    now!!

So watch out for Sweden, Sweden will make it to the Semifinals, AT LEAST!! Thats it, WATCH OUT FOR SWEDEN!!!!!

  24. here are you winners:

brazil versus england.. brazil, they're the best team ever.. england cant win.. hooligans shouldnt be allowed to play organized sports (if you consider soccer organized)

    3-1
    ---

usa versus germany.. this is a tough one.. but i have to give it to the usa.. but if the usa had to lose to anyone, i'd want it to be germany..

    2-1
    ---

spain versus south korea... south korea because they've fixed the game, cheating slant eyes..

    2-0
    ----

senegal versus turkey.. turkey, because they're just cooler..

    1-0
    ---

and there you have it.. place your bets, you cant lose.

That's a bit harsh on Brazil: Rivaldo isn't that tough and although Ronaldo looks like he's been specially bred for kicking, you shouldn't be so nasty. Okay - Rivaldo is lucky to be alive after intensive head injuries from the first game, but please, let's be sensible about the game.
    Brazil to win 7-0.

USA to beat Germany? Yep - Klose won't come close to headering the ball past Friedle. And Cobi jones will pull the German defense apart.

    USA 3-0 Germany I think.

Italy losing to South Korea is what is so funny. And what is even funnier is what I heard on the news today: the South Korean who scored the Golden Goal played for an Italian team, he has now been sacked and told never to return to Italy! LOL, cry babies. They will blame everybody but themselves for losing.
And yeah, I think Sweden will get better in the near future. They peaked in 94 but since have not been so good, I think they are on the up again. As for Euro/World Champions... det tycker du, men helt fel: England ska.

Boss, yeah that England-Argentina game in 86 had one of the most famous goals, and the most infamous goal, ever to be seen in a World Cup. I hope they show more classic games from the 70 World Cup, like the England-Mexico match or the Brazil-Italy final. And as for Banks' save, it must be good for goal keepers nowadays to talk about it like they do. I guess you have to be a goal keeper to really appreciate how good it was.
