Well Baldrick old friend, looks like we will have to settle for a draw. I think it is what both teams deserved. Sweden Played crap in the first half; England played crap in the second half. During the first half, I thought the game was in the bag, England weren't even playing that well and they were dominating Sweden, even though the English midfiled was a bit lacklustre. Then the second half came... I was thankfull that Sweden only managed to score one goal. I can't stand to even watch England play sometimes, they seem to have this knack of sitting back too much, then at other times they put on a world class performance (like the way they played Argentina in the last world cup), it sends me crazy to watch them play sometimes.

First of all, Freddy is dead.
He continues to kill teen lovers in their dreams though.

And yes, it's a small percentage of people who cause rioting at these games. But their the ones everyone wants to watch! They make scoccer, er, football fun for the rest of us!
Watching people kick a ball around for several hours is OK, I guess. But with an average of only two or three goals a game, someones got to provide some action. So if a few thugs stomp someone to their death I'm there!!!

BTW, I hear Korea will be selling dog meat juice at their games.
Anyone know if they're going to print the players pictures on the cans, and if they'll ship to other countries?

  7. Someone who loves both England and Germany, you must be unique. Hargreaves had a good game, so I suppose we have something to thank the Germans for.

  8. Asking me to watch the world cup would be like asking an european if they are gonna watch the NASCAR Daytona 500, in a word won't even waste my time, better things to do than watch a bunch of guys kick a small ball back and forth up a huge green field.

England on sunday- poor, poor, poor. i had my doubts about sven ever since england were outplayed by greece. and my doubts were confirmed on sunday. he's crap. he told england to use the long ball! thats never going to work when you're trying to get the ball to a small guy like michael owen. its not surprising he had only 1 chance in the entire game.
has sven ever heard of passing? that's the key to football.
i think england will lose their last 2 games and sven will have to quit, but he'll be laughing all the way to the bank will all the money he has made through various promotions.

  13. If it was'nt for Sven, we would'nt even be there. Yes I agree we were crap on Sunday, particularly in the second half, but I am sure the players will all be pumped up for the Argies on Friday. Things can only get better.

You have never thought about that the problem maybe isn't the coach for the english team, it is the player that suck. How come england never play good soccer in a world cup? I don't think that is the coach in england that is bad, it is the player that think that they are so ******* good. Get a new coach want help!!!

helmut you have a point. my father always says that "england have the players, but they can't play together" but i disagree. i think they have only 2 worldclass players- michael owen and david beckham. the rest of the players are painfully average. danny mills in particular is dreadful. and i don't rate rio ferdinand highly (he could have blocked the sweden goal). Having said that, sven chose the strategy(and one ten years out of date) and why is'nt steve mcmanaman in the team? he's played in two champions league finals!

  17. England are indeed a team full of mediocre players. They are overpaid only because they fill in the numbers at top clubs. Truly awful team. Less able nations have better teamwork: I just saw S Korea. They won't be the finalists, I knw that, but they were a better team than England. It is also confidence. Somrthing clicked with England against Germany last year. This has not been repeated since.

ember you're a 100% right. i also think south korea are better than england. they have a team spirit which england seem to lack. ireland also have something special, they beat holland with 10 men and drew against portugal twice.they should have beaten holland in amsterdam as well(and only 2 of our players would get into the england team!)
all england could manage was a flash in the pan result against germany. if england are so good how were they outplayed by grecce at home?england just lack that special something, team spirit!

  19. Hi there, just a few points.
I concede that the England team spirit/cohesion seems lacking - i blame the English F.A. for their decision years ago to make the Premier league so big, our players rarely get a chance to practise together and are knackered come the world cup.

To our North American friends - just check the viewing figures for the world cup and compare them with the (so called) 'world series' - even better compare them with the viewing figures for the olympics. That many people can't be wrong - maybe give the beautiful game another chance?

England only seems to play on a par with its present opposition, against average/workman like opposition like Sweden (you do have everton players in there for gods sake) we give an average/workman like performance. Against tough competition we manage to rally our performance. This is why we will never progress very far as we lack the consistancy to play OUR game against any level of opposition - lets see on Friday.

Lastly, it makes me very, very, VERY proud to think that there are so many people/nations out there that really care that England loses against ANYONE. Most English aren't that bothered in reverse wether Ireland or Sweden win or lose (unless we are playing them of course!). Is it jealosy? Is it history? Either way there can be no smoke without fire, and the ability my nation has to sir up a REACTION at all make me so proud.

    COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!

England... zzzzzz. Why does everyone talk about England as if they were so great anyway? I mean the current WORLD CHAMPIONS, FRANCE, *LOST* to SENAGAL for crying out loud! Probably the biggest upset in World Cup history gets overshadowed by the fact that England played bad and scraped a 1-1 draw with another team that for the first half were figuring out how to kick a ball at the goal.
    Boring.
England are very tempermental and have a knack of playing on par with the opposition, like someone said earlier. They do have it in them to play a very good game, but if they can play flaccidly, they will. Whereas a team like Brazil will still pile on the pressure up front in injury time looking for that extra goal. Given Englands record, I think we will probably see a better performance when they play Argentina, hopefully it will be a game like their last one in 98.

Anyway, who saw Japan Vs Belgium today? Japan may play like school boys on a playground and their ball control may leave a lot to be desired, but they put on a good show which is what I like to see in a World Cup. They were so unlucky to have that 3rd goal disallowed too, should have been a goal... lousy ref. Very entertaining match, way better than watching England and Sweden trying to figure out how to get their midfield to create chances.

  22. BTW what did you guys think of Brazils "injury" at the end of the game? For those of you who didn't see, the ball hit him in the leg, he fell covering his face . My Brazilian friends were horrified as was I. We all hope not to see such again. But then again if that,s what it takes for brazil to win...

I was disgusted, and even embarrased, to watch him do that. The Turkish player got what he deserved though, but Rivaldo should be fined, which I think that what is going to happen to him. It was totally uncalled for anyway, it was a bookabale offence no matter how well Rivaldo played a dying dog. Rather pointless... but I don't think that we will be seeing too much more amateur dramatics from Rivaldo after making such an ass of himself in front of millions.

  24. Hi again.
I talk about England because i'm English and they are my team. I don't know why anyone else should, i agree it's strange, especially considering the boring match (for neutrals) between Sweden. Although I have a feeling that there may be few people who are neutral when it comes to England, that's why i say i'm proud that this is so, that the fate of the English football team matters so much to people, even if its for negative reasons, most English could't give a f**k about any other team.

I also hate any form of prejudice: it is strange that in our society overt sexism or colour racism is not tolerated, yet is is apparently acceptable to sign your post

COME ON ANY TEAM THAT PLAYS ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Should i do the same? No, because i am English.

I wirte about england because I think it's the most overestimate team in swedish television. I don't now what other countries media think about the english team.

And of course I follow england when Sven is the coach.. he should be in the swedish team!! "Lars-Tommy" is bad for the swedish team. Sweden would be much better without them.

    Sven come home!

d4n13l, as far as rivaldo is concerned the fact he only got a fine is a disgrace, if an english/swedish/irish player had done that they would have been banned for 2 matches- the rest of the first round. we all know fifa give brazil special treatment!
Droolin01, while the f.a. could make it easier for english players(by reducing the number of premiership games) that won't be the answer to all their problems- they did'nt even thank their english and japanese supporters after the game. its sad the way everyone who is'nt english wants them to lose, you're right. i've heard an argentian player (their captain i think) say that beating england in '86 was more important than winning the world cup. so if your players aren't up for this game, and don't play their hearts out for their country, they should'nt be there.oh and finally-
    KEANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
    WELL DONE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I know what you mean about Rivaldo. I would have thought he would get booked at the very least, he got off way too lightly.

BTW, I think that Seaman was the only English player to thank the crowd.
