  1. hello all, my first post here. I downloaded a svcd movie and extracted the cue file via vcdgear into mpeg. I'll assum that this is mpeg2 for svcd. However, i want to burn this onto a dvdr to play on my standalone player. Do i still need to convert this svcd mpeg into dvd mpeg or are they the same? thanks for any help.

why not burn it as a svcd and watch it like that? you wouldn't gain any quality by reencoding it for a dvd-r (if fact, you'd lose quality)

ahhh, see you never said that your player couldn't read svcds. I just assumed it could. now that i know a little more about your dilemma, try this.

  5. yes, i suppose i can do this....but the problem is my dvd player is 4 years old. It's very picky and supports only vcd, dvd and cd. It's a sony dvp-c600D....So i doubt authoring svcd mpeg onto a dvdr will work on my player. So i guess a final question is, my last resort could be to re-encode the svcd mpeg to a dvd mpeg and burn it correct?

that is correct. I would suggest that you use tmpgenc and use as high a bitrate in the dvd template as you can, also choose soften block noise in the quantize matrix tab. hope that helps.
