  1. hello everyone

    maybe you can help me

My system : 1 gig AMD 3x256 meg of ram
    pioneer DVR-A03
    O/S Win XP
Note the only DVD reader I have in my system is the dvd writer.
Note When writing everything is fine, this only happens when ripping

Everytime I try to rip a dvd movie after about 3 - 8 mins into the ripping the PC will reset without warning or error message just like you've hit the reset button on the tower, this only happens when ripping,

    Things that I've tried:-

I've tried disabling all start up programs .

removed all 3 sticks of memory and tried a single new 256 meg stick

Pulled up the task manager to check the load on the CPU which is about 12% while ripping.

Moved the drive so its a primary drive on the IDEcable

removed the generic windows assigned driver and re-installed it.

Flashed the firmware of the DVD writer to the latest version.

    Tried using different rippers.

Pulled all my f**king hair out.

Can anyone help before I go crazy and eat my testicles

  2. Whoa there! No need to do that to the family jewels.

Certain devices do not play well on the same IDE channel. Before having your ... uh mmm lunch .... try giving your A03 its own IDE channel to play with. I know you said that you made it the primary on the IDE but I am assuming that there is a slave on the same ribbon cable. Try the drive by itself without any other devices sharing the A03's cable. If this does not work try....

Check you device manager and check the properties of you IDE controlers. Are you running PIO or DMA modes with your A03?. Try disabling / enabling. If this does not work try...

Going crazy and eating your... um... err..

  3. I was experiencing the same reset problem while encoding with Tmpgenc.

Since you also use an AMD MoBo, you should install the latest drivers for your MoBo. For VIA chipsets, you should install the latest 4in1 drivers and Busmaster drivers.

VIA Busmaster Filter Driver (from 4 in 1 drivers):

    VIA Busmaster Miniport driver:

Hopefully this will stop the resetting as it worked for me. Other possible fixes include installing the latest Bios for your MoBo, for your DVD drive, and downloading the latest XP update.

Tell us if and how you get your system running smoothly.

  4. i suspect is the chipset, as I rip from time to time with my A03, btw A03 only do PIO mode not DMA, the A04s have DMA mode. I run Win2000 however and not XP, but when I was under XP I was ripping with either my A03 or my Pioneer 116. BTW my A03 was master and the 116 slave, butr now I converted my A03 to 1394 with a 1394 converter from datoptic.com.

  5. mikerios,
I use the A03 drive with DMA enabled on XP with my AMD 2100+ and Asus A7V MB. Works fine for me.

  6. From Star-ratS

Something interesting I found out last night was that if I run msconfig and click the services tab and disable everything then start ripping It manages to get to 84% of the rip then Smart Ripper prompts me with a message saying "quit Smart ripper" this seems to happen on all dvd I try to rip although this is alot better than the reset problem but still getting me no where, and If I click no the RIP doesnt contiune. I used cladXP to rip and it seems to rip fine, but as soon as you enable all the services again I'm back with the reset problem

My questions which I'd love to get answer for are :-

Q1 rather than disabling all the services under msconfig how can I found out which service is reseting the PC ? without having to go through the lot.

Q2 Even when I do disable all the services and start ripping using Smart Ripper why after about 50% it promts me with the "quit Smart Ripper" and doesn't restart?

Q3 If I was to drop kick this PC out the window would someone be there to catch it?

  7. k then it's prolly not the chipset , but it's intresting that if he diables all of his services it rip a bit farther, my question is what did he install ( antivirus, or some other program ) that is interfereing with his ripping abilities, considering I have a soft firewall going ( zonealarm ) and an Anit Virus package going ( AVP ) makes me wonder what program could have running so much interferance, the only thing I can thing is of the notoriuos fast find feature of microrsoft office.

as for the question2, it depends of what he has inside of his computer, if it's an econobox then I guess it hits the pavement below 8)

  8. just a thought, does smartripper have any problems with the ASPI Layer in winxp ? Cause I know the XP ASPI is kinda funky for me when I try to run certain programs.

a quick test is to try the "normal" setting in smartripper.

  9. well smart ripper worked fine under for me, but my main ripper is dvd decryptor, both work under xp provided you got the apsi layer installed.

  10. run regedit for xp.
    goto
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Contro l>CrashControl

Change the AutoReboot setting to 0.

XP has a built in protection that just reboots the computer on fatal errors.

Hope this helps. (Works for anybody who experiences that without the dvd ripping, too )
