  1. As a newbie, i was wondering what the steps are to get my DV recorded tape, to my computer and then back to DVD-R without any quality loss, after all it is digital!
Have tried various programs to capture video then i save avi then author and burn to DVD-R, but the end results don't look as good. The colours show digital noise and the movement is very slightly jerky. I also notice that when editing with Vegas pro or similar program, the picture in the preview is a little jerky and grainy on playback. When i expand to full screen the movie looks like a mozaic!! Is this normal? Whats all this rendering business about? All i want at the moment is to get from DV tape to DVD-R disc.
The picture looks superb from my camcorder staright in my TV.

Heres the deal, DV video is digital but very lightly compressed. If you could transfer the DV to the DVD-R, it would only hold about 20 minutes of DV video in the 4.7G capacity. The DVD player can't play it because it is built to decode MPEG2 encoded video.

So you need to take your precious DV video and encode it in MPEG2 format. Don't worry, if you do a good job, it will look fantastic. Try TMPGenc with the DVD template. Realize that the computer monitor is a lot higher resolution than your tv, so the file will still not look as good on the computer as on the tv.

The DVDs that I have burned look identical to a DV tape playing into the tv.
