I take it from your post that you live in a crappy area for cable modems, and are unable to get a DSL modem also because of your area (punctuation does help).
My suggestion is to go for an ISDN modem. They opperate up to 128K (twice as fast as a 56K modem), and are zoned for most areas. Another thing is to find out how long it will be until you are zoned for DSL and just wait.My shameless plug - XavierEnterprises.net -
For ISDN rates and modems, check with your local ISP. Most ISP's will either rent or sell you the modem.

It's not hard m8........
Phone your ISP and ask them what your options are.
They will tell you the prices of ISDN in your area and the availability.
They will also tell you how much it will cost you to rent the modem off them or to buy the modem off them.
I am really hoping that you don't think you can just go out and buy an ISDN modem and upgrade from 56K.
Phone your ISP and ask.
They will probably fall over themselves to help for your business.
It's only when they have your business that they get lazy... -

i personally wouldn't recomend it. Seems like it would have a lot of lag, although it would be fast.
