  1. Hello everyone,

I was trying to use Huffyuv compression driver to compress my home DV video. Somehow after compression from original DV format file gets 3 to 4 times bigger than the original one . Does not matter what I do with Huffyuv configuration settings I cannot get my target file to be less or even equal in size to the original one. File size increase is dramatic.

I am using ULead VideoStudio 5 with all updates installed . I have tried VirtualDub but get the same result. OS is Win2000

My original video is in AVI file downloaded from JVC DV Camcorder via FireWire port with the VideoStudio - 1 hour about 10GB. Compression to all other MPEG and AVI formats works as expected.

Do you know what might be wrong? Am I missing something?

    Thank you.

no that's exactly right. DV compression compresses video more than huffyuv, so basically your uncompressing it the recompressing it with huffyuv.

  3. If huffyuv is lower compression than DV then why would someone would want to use it?

huffyuv is an alternative to capturing in uncompressed yuv fomat (30 Meg/sec i believe), huffyuv is bit by bit identical to the original uncompressed file,...just appx. half the size. DV compression is a "lossy" compression that is not bit by bit identical (although it looks really close).
