  1. I'm having a problem preserving the original aspect ratio of the dvd that I am converting to an svcd. in tmpg I selected 16:9 display, and center as my options, and it came out with about 75% of the screen filled with video, and only 25% of black bars. It should have been 50-50, is there a way to keep the original aspect ratio of the dvd? The only thing that came close was using center, keep aspect ratio2, but with that there was the black bars, and a lighter black area where the extra video was before. There has got to be a better way to make my svcd widescreen then that. Are there different programs other then tmpg, that are better for this, or easier? Please help, I'm going insane!!!!!!! Oh yeah I use ntsc if that matters at all. Thanks in advance for your help.

You don't say how you are getting from the DVD to TMPGenc. Somewhere along the line you probably need to crop the movie. I use Gordian Knot, but I suppose you could also do it in TMPGenc using the *Clip frame* option. Once you have done that you will need to select a Video arrange method which involves *keep aspect ratio*. The first one I would try is *Full screen.*

  3. oh ok, this is what I did, used smart ripper to rip the vob files, then used dvd2avi to create a file that could be used in tmpgenc. How can I crop the picture to make it widescreen?

  4. I would recommend DVD2SVCD and use CCE as the encoder, much easier to use.

  5. Ya, I tried sdvd2svcd, and when I woke up I found 3 big files, but there was no video. It just encoded the audio for some reason. I thought I did everything right, but I guess not.

As I said before, try the *clip frames* feature in TMPGenc. You will probably find black borders around the film. Try clipping them, and try a Video arrange method = Full screen (keep aspect ratio).
