I'm trying to resize a 720x480 vfapi-avi (converted from a dvd2avi project file) down to 480x480 using the latest version of virtual dub as a frame server (yes proxy-on.reg was merged into my registry). CCE 2.50 will take the avi if I just give it the vfapi-avi file, but after I setup the frameserver with the resize filter, cce crashes when i try to add the avi to the encoding list.
Is there any alternative method to resize an avi and send it to cce on the fly? I could just save the avi in virtual dub as an intermediary with huffyuv or mpeg4 with a high bitrate, but doing it while it converts to mpeg 2 would be preferred. Any ideas?
(ok so maybe it wasnt a quick question.)

Try AVISynth.
Include the resize filter in the script.

sus,
@ the moment, the pseudo holy-grail of cce resize/frameserv is Sully'z Guide. Its being digitally remastered into html and it will be coming soon to a server near you, and i dont even know where u live:

For example a .d2v file to 480x480 w/CCE
Open the movie.d2v file with TMPGenc, set the size to 480x480, save project. Open movie.tpr file with VFAPI to convert to movie.avi. Load load.avi file into CCE. If you choose to export audio with VFAPI, it saves the whole audio file as a seperate wav file.
You can also frame serve via V-Dub, although I'm not for sure if multipass encoding works. You can use Flask and AVI-SYNTH for multipass encoding. You need the newest versions of each.
You can also get FitCD ( http://members.tripod.de/fitcd/FitCD_v092.zip download, home page http://members.tripod.de/fitcd ) which supports .d2v files and generates avs scripts for you.
Make sure all codec are installed (VFAPI.BAT).

or search the forum under CCE and you'll get lotz o info..

I used to use AVIsynth but it sometimes complained
about certain VOBs. I now use tmpgenc. Just set
the video source to your .d2v project file saved
from dvd2avi, set the resize parameters, then save
the project to a .tpr file.
Next open the .tpr in VFAPI reader to create a
virtual avi file. This can be added to the encode
list in CCE. -
CCE causes all sorts of problems for me... never had it work right yet...
BUT I have one other peice of info...
Not only do you have to edit the .avs file, but you have to edit the .ecl playlist file that CCE generates to match the filesize! And, to get the .avs to open!
First open the converted fake .avi (it's the d2v file really) in CCE. Immediately save a playlist (.ecl) file.
Now open the .ecl file in a text editor, and look at the bottom where it references the input file. Change this link to point to your .avs file.
Also, somewhere on the middle-top of the .ecl, you'll find "WIDTH" and "HEIGHT". You MUST change these to whatever values you set in your .avs file for width and height.
This is important, because CCE seems to continue to reference the size of the original .avi you opened, but it won't change when you switch to your .avs script.
Just save the .ecl file, and open it once again in CCE to make changes to encoding values (it will not change the Width/Height or file link information from here on, even if saved again).
But like I said, I've never gotten the rest of the process to work right (past the sizing). CCE makes weird, corrupt file-sized, video streams for me. Good luck. -

Now wait a minute... this just cought my eye...
You can save a DVD2AVI PROJECT FILE to a fake AVI?
Does this mean you can apply all the various filters, cropping, etc. from TMPGEnc for use in CCE? I'm confused... -
Well shut my mouth!
Now if I could only get CCE to maek a file that wasn't heavily corrupted...
Can someone send me some settings (actually all of them) from someone who's done a VBR MPEG-1 file?
When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING, including .ecl file, pack settings (what I think the problem is), etc. I would REALLY appreciate it! -
I will do that, but it takes a while. You should also consider to reinstall CCE and use another crack.
-
Well... DVD2AVI doesn't make the fake .avi file. That's what VFAPI Converter is for. But yes, it does mean you can save a TMPGEnc project file, convert it to .avi with the VFAPI Converter & run it through AVISynth to CCE. Or just load the fake .avi itself.
Truman - Different crack? Got an address (e-mail)? -
sully, yes, this last post might be confusing. I just needed homerpez' email address. I got it.
-
Truman, got your tutorial okay, the problem is that I don't see any settings that are different from mine (that would effect this problem)...
The only changes between yours and mine, is that 1- I don't use MPEG2DEC plugin, I just convert the .d2v project file to fake AVI, and reference the AVI in the .avs file...
I can't imagine that using this plugin would help make the correct size, but you never know with these things...
Also, I noticed that "Encode Mode" is 0 on yours, and I suspect this means you don't use "Quick Compress"... can this be another diffence?
I think you may be right.... the CCE people don't care a rat's heiny about MPEG-1. Too bad it's all I ever use!
-
Just something I thought I would mention about frame-serving from VirtualDub to CCE...If you load a video source only (without loading audio) and frame-serve to CCE, CCE will crash when you try to add the .avi to the encoding list. This is true on all versions of CCE that I have seen. If you add the audio however and set VirtualDub to "direct stream copy" then CCE works fine.

thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna try messing with the different avisynth techniques next time. The way I did the one I was having problems with was with Flask using the CCE plugin. Only problem with that method is that you have to do 1 pass VBR because flask will only decode once. The other methods look like a better way to send video to cce.
-
homerpez, right, I don't use quick compression.
The method dvd2avi> Avisynth/MPEG2DEC> CCE is only faster than dvd2avi> VFAPI> Avisynth >CCE, because there is one step (conversion YUY2>RGB) more in it. I don't believe, that it does effect the filesize.
